Hymnary.org JSON API for searching by Scripture reference

Use this API to fetch a JSON array of up to 100 hymns that are associated with a particular range of Scripture passages. The possible fields returned for each text are:

'title'
'date'
'meter'
'place of origin'
'original language'
'text link' (to Hymnary text authority page)
'number of hymnals'
'scripture references'
Roles people associated with the text had, such as 'composer' or 'arranger'

There are two ways to specify a Scripture passage to search:

A human-friendly passage reference, like 'John 3:16'.
Use the @reference GET parameter to pass in one of these, like so: hymnary.org/api/scripture?reference=Psalm+136.
Or use the GET parameters @book, @fromChapter, @fromVerse, @toChapter, and @toVerse to specify a passage range. As an example, hymnary.org/api/scripture?book=1+John&fromChapter=3&fromVerse=1&toChapter=3&toVerse=4 finds hymns in our database that reference 1 John 3:1-4.
All parameters except for @book and @fromChapter are optional.

This API will normally only return hymns with reasonably complete information on Hymnary.org. To return all matches, pass a GET parameter all=true.
