Description
Anglicanism is a tradition within Christianity comprising churches with historical connections to the Church of England or similar beliefs, worship and church structures. The word Anglican originates in ecclesia anglicana, a medieval Latin phrase dating to at least 1246 that means the English Church. Adherents of Anglicanism are called Anglicans. The great majority of Anglicans are members of churches which are part of the international Anglican Communion.
Description
Via Media is a Latin phrase meaning ‘The Middle Road’. This is a philosophical maxim for life which advocates moderation in all thoughts and actions. The Via Media was the dominant philosophical precept by which Ancient Roman civilisation and society was organised. This precept of moderation in all things was derived from earlier Ancient Greek philosophy where Aristotle (384-322 B.C. ) taught moderation - urging his students to follow the middle road between extremes.
