Tune: | BASEL |
Composer: | Samuel Sebastian Wesley |

1 Hear me, O God! when near Thy throne
My earnest cries ascend;
I plead Thy righteousness alone,
And on Thy grace depend.
2 Oft has that grace enlarged my heart,
Distressed by anxious care;
Again Thy mercy, Lord, impart,
Again regard my prayer.
3 When shades of night around me spread,
I’ll all my ways rehearse,
In silent witness on my bed,
And with my heart converse.
4 While many, wrapped in nature’s night,
For worldly good inquire,
O lift on me Thy saving light!
’Tis all that I desire.
5 I then in peace my eyes will close,
And take my needful rest:
Nor fear, nor danger interpose,
Of Thy defense possessed.
