38. The Savior’s Invitation

1 Do you hear them ever sounding sweet and clear,
Sweeter words the ear of man will never hear;
Souls by care and sorrow burdened and oppressed,
‘Tis the Savior bids you come to Him and rest.

Refrain:
Sweetly sounding like glad music ringing,
Sweetly sounding joy to sad hearts bringing;
Wondrous words of life so free,
Weary heart they are for thee,
‘Tis the Savior’s invitation, come to me.

2 You may cast on Him your load of grief and care,
Christ your faithful Lord will ev’ry burden bear;
To the fainting soul fresh strength He will impart,
And His blessed peace will give to ev’ry heart. [Refrain]

3 Softly still and gently comes the gracious call,
And the tender words with balm of healing fall,
On the souls who linger still in sorrow’s night,
Leading them at last into eternal light. [Refrain]
