147. I'll Be a Sunbeam

1 I’ll be a sunbeam, so brightly gleaming,
A lovely sunbeam from heaven streaming,
A holy radiance on others beaming,
A lamp of life to lighten all the way;
God’s beauteous love-light of hope and kindness,
To shed on others in sin and blindness.

Refrain:
O little child, O sunbeam bright,
God sent you here some path to light;
Some lonely heart to bless and cheer,
The loving Father sent you here;
Some life to lift, some heart to bless,
Like Christ, the Sun of righteousness;
To be a light so sweet and mild,
God sent you, little child.

2 I’ll be like Jesus, the light from heaven,
Light of the ages to mortals given,
Who left his glory, his home in heaven,
To shed abroad the radiance of his love;
My sweetest pleasure to tell the story,
Reflect his image, show forth his glory. [Refrain]
