89. Welcome, Welcome!

1 Welcome, welcome! a hearty welcome
To our Sabbath school, the children say;
Glad we greet you this happy morning,
For we never miss a single day.
Be it fair or rainy weather,
Ev’ry week we meet together;
Never whining
Or repining—
‘Neath the clouds the sun is always shining.

Chorus:
Welcome, welcome! a hearty welcome
To our Sabbath school, the children say;
Glad we greet you this lovely morning,
Welcome to the house of pray’r today!

2 With God’s goodness our hearts are thrilling;
Happy greeting to our friends so dear;
Welcome, teachers, and welcome, scholars,
Welcome, ev’ry soul assembled here.
And our hearts o’erflow with gladness—
Jesus’ love has banished sadness;
Oh, there’s blessing
In confessing
And a Father’s throne of grace addressing! [Chorus]

3 Now all nature is hushed and holy
Sabbath bells are chiming sweet and low;
Gentle Shepherd, so meek and lowly,
On thy little lambs thy grace bestow.
While we learn the wondrous story
Of the Lord of life and glory,
Pray’rs ascending,
Voices blending—
Thus with joy the sacred moments spending. [Chorus]

4 Here we gather in all our classes;
Jesus sees us tho’ so small and weak;
He is mindful of all that passes,
He will listen to the words we speak.
Then, O little lips, be careful,
And, O little hearts, be pray’rful;
Kind words saying,
Never playing,
All the rules of Sabbath school obeying. [Chorus]
