40. The World Is Bright, the World Is Good

1 The world is bright, the world is good,
For by a Master hand
Its seas were spread, its mountains built,
And all its fitness planned.
That Master Builder is our God!
Omnipotent, divine is He,
The mighty One who was, and is,
And shall forever be.

Refrain:
Thy name we magnify!
Thee, Lord, we glorify!
Great Builder, Thee we will adore
Forevermore.

2 The fruitful fields are from His grace;
The harvest time He gives;
The seasons come at His command,
In Him all nature lives.
He planted in the human breast
A latent Brotherhood of love
That, nurtured by good deeds, it might
A fount of blessing prove. [Refrain]

3 Behold the flowers of the field,
The mighty forest trees,
The creatures of the deep and wild,
The birds and busy bees!
Life gave He unto all that is
On earth, in sea, and in the sky;
Yet more than life He gave to man—
A soul that shall not die. [Refrain]

4 As His protecting wings are thrown
O’er us from day to day,
So let us care for those who tread
With us life’s great highway.
A word of cheer, a helping hand
Extended in a time of need,
Will make some burdened heart rejoice,
And God will bless the deed. [Refrain]
