LXXXV. LORD, thou hast granted to thy Land

1 LORD, thou hast granted to thy Land,
The Favours we implor'd;
To Freedom Jacob's captive Race,
Most graciously thou hast retor'd.
Thy People's Sins thou pardon'd hast,
Nor doth thine Indignation last.

2 O GOD of our Salvation turn
Our Hearts to thee, to us speak Peace:
Avert the Wrath our Guilt deserves,
And let thy righteous Anger cease.
LORD! shall thine Anger never end;
But to all future Times extend?

3 Wilt thou not us revive again,
And make thy People glad in thee?
Shew us thy tender Mercies, LORD;
Let us thy great Salvation see.
In thee, our Saviour, we'll rejoice,
And sing thy Praise with Heart and Voice.

4 On GOD, with Patience, I will wait;
His Answer to our Pray'rs I'll hear:
He, to his People, will speak Peace;
I know it, therefore shall not fear.
He'll comfort all his Saints who mourn,
But let them not to Folly turn.

5 To all that fear his holy Name
His sure Salvation's ever near;
And in its former glorious State
Our happy Nation shall appear:
For Mercy now with Truth is join'd,
And Righteousness with Peace combin'd.

6 Truth from the Earth shall spring, whilst Heav'n
Shall constant Streams of Justice pour,
And GOD, from whom all Goodness flows,
O'er all the Land shall Plenty show'r:
Before him Righteousness shall go,
And we his holy Ways shall know.
