107. Forward, Through the Ages

1 Forward, forward, thro’ the ages,
See God’s pilgrims true,
Pressing onward, striving upward,
Till their goal they view;
Faithful souls enduring hardness
With heroic might,
Patient souls with martyr courage
Suff’ring for the right.

2 See them gath’ring thro’ the ages,
Living e’en today,
Men and women bravely toiling
Up the narrow way;
Who will join these pilgrim warriors,
Noblest earth has seen,
Who will follow in the footprints
Where the Christ has been?

3 Lo! For us he hath ascended,
Captain of our faith,
And to each true pilgrim soldier,
“Thou art mine,” he saith;
And his voice strikes deepest music
In the toil and strife,
And his words are living manna
For each need of life.
