139. Prayer

1 Behold a form upon the lonely mount,
It is the Son of God so humbly bowed in pray’r;
Beneath our load of sin he bowed,
All night he wrestled there.

2 The twelve apostles lived alone for God,
To preach the gospel, sing and pray;
Their life or pray’r before the throne,
Has taught to us the way.

3 When hungry lions and the furnace flame
Did threaten Daniel’s faithful band,
They feared no harm, but prayed the same,
And foiled the king’s command.

4 The sainted army overcame the foe,
And won a crown by faith and pray’r;
If we with Christ would reign in life,
God’s armor we must wear.

5 Our life and soul’s triumphant wings is pray’r,
The hand of pow’r that takes the crown;
Along the line where pray’rs arise,
God sends the blessings down.
