251. If Thou but Trust in God to Guide Thee

1 If thou but trust in God to guide thee,
And place thy confidence within,
God will give strength, whatever betide thee,
To give thee hope and strength within.
For those who trust God's changeless love
Build on the rock that will not move.

2 What gain is there in futile weeping,
In helpless anger and distress?
If thou art in God's care and keeping
In sorrow will God love thee less?
For God who took for thee a cross
Will bring thee safe through every loss.

3 Sing, pray, and keep God's ways unswerving;
So do thine own part faithfully,
And trust God's word; though undeserving,
Thou yet shalt find it true for thee.
God never will forsake at need
The soul that trusts in God indeed.
