The Cyber Hymnal's picture

Eugene J. Hall's page (http://www.hymnary.org/person/Hall_EJ) has one title, "They say I am old an' forgetful." But when I click on it, I am taken to a page where it says the author is Jane E. Hall (http://www.hymnary.org/text/they_say_i_am_old_and_forgetful). Is one name a pseudonym for the other, or is this an error?

The DNAH information attributed "They say I am old and forgetful" to Jane E. Hall, however, in the hymnal "Gospel in Song" (E. O. Excell, 1885) it says it is written by Eugene J. Hall. I was able to find it in Eugene J. Hall's (b. 1845) book "Lyrics of home-land" available in Google Books. I do not have much information about Jane E. Hall. The name appears a "J. E. Hall" in the hymnals that we have page scans for, so I do not know where DNAH got the name "Jane E. Hall" from.

Well, there are lots of hymns listed for Jane, and only the one (actually half of one, more like) for Eugene, which suggests to me that maybe Eugene was Jane's husband? Total undocumented guesswork. Cyberhymnal's first guess of a pseudonym is my second choice; since the initials are mirror images this is not at all unlikely, though why she would only have used a pseudonym the once is hard to fathom.
