Scored for Handbells, Unison Choir, Organ, Viola

A ninth century Latin hymn with a John Mason Neale translation of CONDITOR ALME SIDERUM, Sarum plainsong, Mode IV. The four stanzas, based on the "Great O Antiphons" of the Roman Church, are clothed in a mystical ambiance provided by patterned and random handbell ringing, supported with bass pedal points (organ), and enriched by countermelody and canon (viola). Vocal, handbell, and viola parts all written in flowing chant style. May be performed by children, women, men, or any combination.
