Tenebrae
A hymn subtitled “Tenebrae” addresses Christ, who is about to face beatings, thorns, and nails. It asks Jesus to teach us how to pray, “Not my will but yours be done.” The music is characterized by moving eighths in the piano, minor tonality, and varied use of the SATB forces.
