Jacob Arrhenius, born 31 October 1642 in Linköping, died April 13, 1725 on his farm Hembringe, was a Swedish professor of history, rector of Uppsala University. For posterity's Arrhenius best known as the psalmist.
Jacob Arrhenius was the son of Arvid Klasson Kapfelman who was acting in Linköping and his wife Ingrid Björnsdotter. As a twenty-year was entered Jacob Arrhenius at Uppsala University , where he became prominent as a good student but also ruthless. He received his doctorate in 1670 for his brother Klas Örnhiälm with Patria et EIU amor ex Ciceronis ... Before that he had been clerk at the National Board of Antiquities, and in 1676 he became secretary of Uppsala academy where he made an effort to organize the archive with records and extensions, which he paid for himself. Arrhenius and his brother Örnhielm was opposed to Rudbeck's strong position at the university, including the high costs of his building of the university meant. 1687 Arrhenius was appointed professor of history, and had very many respondents with nearly 50 theses presented. His work as a lecturer, there are not a lot of resources. 1698 added two dissertations submitted to the Arrhenius Uppsala temple, both of two Hesselius. The older of these, Andreas Hesselius, announced in June, Dissertatio historica de Vand Alis... which was a contribution, and which challenged the existing view that the temple would have been at Old Uppsala. Headmaster Olof Rudbeck, Jr. requested that the defense would be postponed, and closed Gustanavium where diputationen would take place. In December of the same year he was also preses for Peter Hesslius who tabled the Upsala templo, jdololatriæ Quondam per septentionem sede the same subject.
As hymn writer is the Arrhenius known by its 1689 and 1691 issued "Psalmeprofwer", a plurality of which were included in the 1695 year hymnbook. His hymns are abundantly represented in Wallin hymnbook 1819 and the New hymns 1921. Similarly, in the 1937 hymnal, while the number of hymns or with him was halved in 1986 hymnal. In a dedication tells Arrhenius himself to his omdiktningar of Psalms accrued during the war. He is the poet of the influence of pietism, Christ Mysticism and by the German Johan Arendt. It is also striking that he studied the versification of Peter Lagerlof and rigid adherence to iambic and trokaiska schemata.
It is possible that he has composed some of the melodies to some psalmer.
Arrhenius married in 1677 to Anna Fornelia, daughter of Professor Lars Fornelius and Anna Andersdaughter Helsingia, daughter of the vicar Anders Erici Helsingius.
