Born: 1840, Swannington, Leicestershire, England.
After Burton’s parents emigrated to America, he studied at Beloit College, Wisconsin, graduating with honors. He served as a Methodist Episcopal minister for a time, then returned to England and entered the Wesleyan ministry in 1865, working chiefly in Lancashire and London. His works include:

Burton, H. In I. D. Sankey's Sacred Songs and Solos, 1878, the hymns, "Come, for the feast is spread," (The Gospel Invitation), and "Look away to Jesus" (Looking unto Jesus) are attributed to the "Rev. H. Burton”
