Cobb, Rev. Sylvanus. (Norway, Vermont, July 17, 1798--October 31, 1866, East Boston, Massachusetts). A Universalist minister who served churches in Maine and Massachusetts; an editor, author, and reformer. Tufts College gave him the honorary degree of D.D. in 1863. His hymn beginning "Great God, before thy throne we bow" is included in Church Harmonies: New and Old, 1895.
