Depew at­tend­ed Trin­i­ty Coll­ege, and served as or­gan­ist and choir­mas­ter of the First Pres­by­ter­ian Church in De­troit, Mi­chi­gan. Around 1904, he moved to New York City, where he played the or­gan at the John Wan­a­mak­er Au­di­tor­ium; Ply­mouth Church, Brook­lyn; St. Ni­cho­las Col­le­gi­ate Church; and the Cap­i­tol and Strand The­a­ters. His works in­clude:
