Eddy, Daniel C., D.D., born in Salem, Massachusetts, May 21, 1823, and entered the Baptist ministry in 1846. He is the author of several hymns, one of which for the Opening of a Place of Worship, "Maker of land and rolling sea," is in the Baptist Praise Book, 1871.

Eddy, Daniel Clarke. (Salem, Massachusetts, May 21, 1823--July 26, 1896, Brooklyn, New York). Baptist. Harvard College, M.A. 1855; Madison University, D.D. 1859. Pastorates at Lowell, Massachusetts, 1846-1856; Boston, 1856-1862, 1864-1871, 1873-1877; Philadelphia, 1862-1864; Fall River, Mass., 1871-1873; Hyde Park, Mass., 1877-1881; Brooklyn, 1811-after 1888. Author of several books for the young, and also books on travel. Wrote several hymns, including "God of the nations! from thy throne." Another hymn contains four stanzas, each starting with a line from the doxology, "Praise God from whom all blessings flow." Included in Baptist Praise Book (1874) is this dedication hymn: "Maker of land and rolling sea, We dedicate this house to thee."

Henry S. Burrage, in Baptist Hymn Writers and Their Hymns (1888), noted that Dr. Eddy had compiled a hymnal, which was nearly ready for publication, entitled The Memorial Hymnal, a Collection of Hymns and Tunes for the Use of Baptist Families and Churches.
