Kenneth George Finlay was the third of seven children born in Marylebone, London on the 3rd February 1882 to Doctor David White Finlay and Catherine Mary Thompson. He attended Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen and Merchiston Castle School Edinburgh. A member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) Kenneth switched to a music career in 1928 and studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the Teachers' Training College, Jordanhill. He bacame a music teacher in Irvine and retired in 1947. He remained single and lived latterly at 26 Helensburgh Drive, Glasgow and died in the Knightswood Hospital Glasgow on the 15th April 1974. He is buried with his parents and siblings in Helensburgh Cemetery."
