|Short Name:||G. T. Haywood|
|Full Name:||Haywood, G. T. (Garfield Thomas), 1880-1931|
Bishop Garfield Thomas Haywood founded the Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Assembly, in 1908, a multicultural Pentecostal congregation in Indianapolis at a time when Indianapolis was segregated by law. Haywood boldly re-baptized the members of his congregation in the Name of Jesus (as opposed to the Trinitarian formula) and Indianapolis quickly became the center of the "oneness doctrine" - that God is one, rather than three distinct persons, and that Jesus Christ is all the fullness of the Godhead incarnate.
Haywood served as the Presiding Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World from 1925-1931. He taught the importance of evangelizing and wrote many pamphlets and booklets, as well as hymns. Many of his songs were published in "The Bridegroom Songs" published by Christ Temple.
