Edward Kremser (* April 10th 1838 in Vienna , † November 26 1914 ) was an Austrian composer , arranger and conductor . He gained great importance as a collector of traditional Viennese songs .
Born in Vienna, Eduard Kremser worked from 1869 to 1899 as choirmaster of the Vienna Men's Choral Society, who later appointed him as honorary choirmaster. The Dresden Male Choral Society also named him an honorary member. Kremser gained notoriety for its effective treatment of six old Dutch folk songs , including the Old Dutch thanksgiving We come to pray by Adriaen Valéry . He has also created even greater number of male choral works with orchestral accompaniment (old Christmas song, pictures Balkans, Prince Eugen, Life is a dance) songs for mixed choir, operettas , songs and piano pieces.
The city of Vienna commissioned him to put together an anthology of Viennese music and surrendered to preserve this traditional heritage. Together with Ludwig Gruber Kremser was subsequently together a wide range of compositions from different periods, in addition to vocal music and instrumental music .
