Dosia Carlson (b.1930) is an inspiration to differently abled people. A bout with polio shattered her dream of being a missionary in China. After studying at Oberlin College she went on to seminary, was ordained, earned a doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh and served on the faculty of The Defiance College. She is founder of DUET, formerly Center DOAR (Developing Older Adult Resources) She lived at the Beatitudes Campus Lifestyle Community in Phoenix, AZ. Among her many awards are Arizona Woman of the Year and the Antoinette Brown Award for outstanding women clergy. She has published two collections of hymns. LANCASHIRE (Smart)

Henry T. Smart (PHH 233) composed the tune in 1835 for use at a missions festival at Blackburn, Lancashire, England. For that festival, which celebrated the three-hundredth anniversary of the Reformation in England, the tune was set to Reginald Heber's (PHH 249) “From Greenland's Icy Mountains.”…
