1. Thut mir auf die schöne Pforte,
Führet mich in Zion ein:
Ach wie wird an diesem Orte
Meine Seele fröhlich sein.
Hier ist Gottes Angesicht,
Hier ist lauter Trost und Licht.

2. Ich bin, Herr, zu dir gekommen,
Komme du nun auch zu mir,
Wo du Wohnung hast genommen,
Da ist lauter HImmel hier.
Zeuch in meinem Herzen ein,
laß es deinen Tempel sein.

3. Laß in Furcht mich vor dich treten,
Heilige du Leib und Geist,
Daß mein Singen und mein Beten
Ein gefällig Opfer heißt.
Heilige du Mund und Ohr,
Zeuch das Herze ganz empor.

4. Stärk in mir den schwachen Glauben,
Laß dein teures Kleinod mir
Nimmer aus dem herzen rauben,
Halte mir dein Wort stets für,
Daß es mir zum Leitstern dient,
Und zum Trost im Herzen grünt.

5. Rede, Herr, so will ich hören,
Und dein Wille werd erfüllt.
Laß mich nichts in Andacht stören,
Wenn der Brunn des Lebens quilt,
Speise mich mit HImmelsbrot,
Tröste mich in aller Not.

6. Öffne mir die grünen Auen,
Daß dein Lamm sich weiden kann;
Lasse mir dein Manna tauen,
Zeige mir die rechte Bahn
Hier in diesem Jammerthal
Zu des Lammes Ehrensaal.

Schmolck, Benjamin, son of Martin Schmolck, or Schmolcke, Lutheran pastor at Brauchitschdorf (now Chrόstnik) near Liegnitz in Silesia (now Poland) was born at Brauchitschdorf, Dec. 21, 1672. He entered the Gymnasium at Lauban in 1688, and spent five years there. After his return home he preached for his father a sermon which so struck the patron of the living that he made Benjamin an allowance for three years to enable him to study theology. He matriculated, at Michaelmas, 1693, at the University of Leipzig, where he came under the influence of J. Olearius, J. B. Carpzov, and others, and throughout his life retained the character of their teaching, viz. a warm and living practical Christianity, but Churchly in tone and not Pietistic.
