All Praise to Thee, My God, This Night

Author: Thomas Ken, 1637-1711 Hymnal: Christian Worship #789 (2021) Meter: 8.8.8.8 D Scripture: Psalm 25:11 Lyrics: 1 All praise to thee, my God, this night for all the blessings of the light. Keep me, O keep me, King of kings, beneath thine own almighty wings. Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son, the ill that I this day have done, that with the world, myself, and thee I, ere I sleep, at peace may be. 2 Teach me to live that I may dread the grave as little as my bed. Teach me to die that so I may rise glorious at the awefull day. Oh, may my soul on thee repose and may sweet sleep mine eyelids close, sleep that shall me more vig'rous make to serve my God when I awake. 3 When in the night I sleepless lie, my soul with heav'nly thoughts supply; let no ill dreams disturb my rest, no pow'rs of darkness me distress. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heav'nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. There's a Wideness in God's Mercy

Author: Frederick W. Faber Hymnal: Voices Together #156 (2020) Meter: 8.7.8.7 Scripture: Psalm 25 Lyrics: 1 There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea. There’s a kindness in God’s justice, which is more than liberty. 2 There is welcome for the sinner, and more graces for the good. There is mercy with the Savior, there is healing in his blood. 3 But we make God’s love too narrow by false limits of our own, and we magnify its strictness with a zeal God will not own. 4 For the love of God is broader than the measures of the mind, and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. 5 If our love were but more simple, we should rest upon God’s word, and our lives would be illumined by the presence of our Lord. It came upon the midnight clear

Author: Edmund H. Sears Hymnal: Trinity Hymnal #157 (1961) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Scripture: Psalm 25:7 Lyrics: 1 It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth To touch their harps of gold; "Peace on the earth, good will to men, From heaven's all-gracious King:" The world in solemn stillness lay, To hear the angels sing. 2 Still through the cloven skies they come, With peaceful wings unfurled, And still their heav'nly music floats O'er all the weary world: Above its sad and lowly plains They bend on hov'ring wing, And ever o'er its Babel-sounds The blessed angels sing. 3 And ye, beneath life's crushing load, Whose forms are bending low, Who toil along the climbing way With painful steps and slow, Look now! for glad and golden hours Come swiftly on the wing: O rest beside the weary road, And hear the angels sing. 4 For lo, the days are hast'ning on, By prophet bards foretold, When with the ever-circling years Comes round the age of gold; When peace shall over all the earth Its ancient splendors fling, And the whole world give back the song Which now the angels sing. Amen. Topics: Angels; Christ, The Lord Jesus; Christ Birth of; Gospel Triumph of; Peace Languages: English Tune Title: CAROL

Show pity Lord--O Lord, forgive

Author: Watts Hymnal: The Voice of Praise #399 (1873) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Psalm 25 Lyrics: 1 Show pity, Lord--O Lord, forgive; Let a repenting rebel live. Are not thy mercies large and free? May not a sinner trust in thee? 2 My crimes are great, but don't surpass The power and glory of thy grace; Great God, thy nature hath no bound-- So let thy pardoning love be found. 3 Oh, wash my soul from every sin, And make my guilty conscience clean; Here on my heart the burden lies, And past offences pain my eyes. 4 My lips with shame my sins confess, Against thy law, against thy grace; Lord, should thy judgments grow severe, I am condemned, but thou art clear. 5 Should sudden vengeance seize my breath, I must pronounce thee just, in death; And if my soul were sent to hell, Thy righteous law approves it well. 6 Yet save a trembling sinner, Lord, Whose hope, still hov'ring round thy word, Would light on some sweet promise there-- Some sure support against despair.
