1554 - 1609 Person Name: Giovanni Giacomo Gastoldi, da Caravaggio Scripture: Hebrews 5-10 Composer of "A LIETA VITA (IN DIR IST FREUDE)" in Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New Giovanni G. Gastoldi (b. 1582; d. 1609) served as a deacon and singer in the chapel of the Gonzaga family in Mantua. Succeeding Giaches de Wert, he directed music in the Church of Santa Barbaras in Mantua from 1592 to 1608. Little is known about the rest of his life. Gastoldi composed a considerable body of court music, such as madrigals, and some church music, but he is best known for his Balletti, which influenced composers such as Monteverdi, Hassler, and Morley.

1858 - 1920 Person Name: John Henry Maunder, 1858-1920 Scripture: Hebrews 5:7-10 Composer of "THY WILL BE DONE" in Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New John Henry Maunder United Kingdom 1858-1920. Born at Chelsea, England,,the son of a carpenter, he attended the Royal Academy of Music. He began his career as a theatre composer, but later specialized in sacred music for the Anglican Church. He became an author and composer, as well as a musician. He was organist at St. Matthew’s, Sydenham (1876-77); St. Paul’s, Forest hill (1878-1879); and at churches in Blackheath and Sutton. He married Ellen Fanny Fulgoux Dakin, and they had a daughter, Winifred. He provided musical accompaniment for concerts in Albert Hall, and, in 1881, conducted the Civil Service Vocal Union. He wrote about 20 church anthems, 10 cantatas, several carols, tunes for around 30 hymns, 19 songs and ballads, 12 services and canticles, two operettas, and six instrumentals. His best known cantata was “Olivet to Calvary”. He was known for his good musical style and great technical facility. His compositions were full of melodic ideas and were written for ease of interpretation. He died at West Brompton, London, England.

1731 - 1776 Person Name: Aaron Williams Scripture: Hebrews 5:6 Composer of "ST. THOMAS (Williams)" in Trinity Psalter Hymnal Aaron Williams (b. London, England, 1731; d. London, 1776) was a singing teacher, music engraver, and clerk at the Scottish Church, London Wall. He published various church music collections, some intended for rural church choirs. Representative of his compilations are The Universal Psalmodist (1763)— published in the United States as The American Harmony (1769)—The Royal Harmony (1766), The New Universal Psalmodist (1770), and Psalmody in Miniature (1778). His Harmonia Coelestis (1775) included anthems by noted composers.

1825 - 1902 Person Name: Henry S. Cutler Scripture: Hebrews 5:6 Composer of "ALL SAINTS NEW" in Trinity Psalter Hymnal Henry Stephen Cutler (b. Boston, MA, 1824; d. Boston, 1902) studied music in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1844. He moved to England, where he listened with interest to the cathedral choirs and came under the influence of the Oxford Movement. Returning to Boston in 1846, Cutler became organist of the Episcopal Church of the Advent and formed a choir of men and boys, to whom he introduced the wearing of liturgical robes. When he took a position at Trinity Church in New York City, he removed women from the choir and used the occasion of a visit by the Prince of Wales to the church to introduce his newly vested men and boys' choir. He also moved the choir from the gallery to the chancel and initiated the chanting of the psalms and the singing of part of the worship service. Cutler compiled The Psalter, with Chants (1858) and published The Trinity Psalter (1864) and Trinity Anthems (1865).
