Now, my tongue, the mystery telling

Author: Edward Caswall (1814-1878) Hymnal: CH4 #667 (2005) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Now, my tongue, the mystery telling of the glorious body sing, and the blood, all price excelling, which the world's great Lord and King, in a virgin's womb once dwelling, shed for this world's ransoming. 2 That last night, at supper lying, with the Twelve, his chosen band, Jesus, with the law complying, keeps the feast its rites demand; then, more precious food supplying, gives himself with his own hand. 3 Word-made-flesh! his word is making earthly bread his flesh to be, wine his blood; and all partaking should from sinful thoughts be free. Faith alone, sight's limits breaking, show true hearts the mystery. 4 Therefore we, before him bending, this great sacrament revere; older rituals have their ending, for the newer rite is here; faith, our outward sense befriending, makes our inner vision clear. 5 Unto God be praise and honour: to the Father, to the Son, to the mighty Spirit, glory, ever Three and ever One: power and glory in the highest while eternal ages run. Amen. Topics: The Church Celebrates Holy Communion; Christian Year Maundy Thursday; Jesus Word of God Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 Languages: English Tune Title: PANGE LINGUA

Now let us from this table rise

Author: Fred Kaan (b. 1929) Hymnal: CH4 #675 (2005) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Now let us from this table rise renewed in body, mind, and soul; with Christ we die and rise again, his selfless love has made us whole. 2 With minds alert, upheld by grace, to spread the Word in speech and deed we follow in the steps of Christ, at one with all in hope and need. 3 To fill each human house with love, it is the sacrament of care; the work that Christ began to do we humbly pledge ourselves to share. 4 Then grant us grace, Companion-God, to choose again the pilgrim way, and help us to accept with joy the challenge of tomorrow's day. Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell

Hymnal: CH4 #323 (2005) Meter: Irregular First Line: The first Nowell the angel did say Lyrics: 1 The first Nowell the angel did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; in fields where they lay a-keeping their sheep on a cold winter's night that was so deep: [Refrain:] Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, born is the King of Israel. 2 They lookèd up and saw a star, shining in the east, beyond them far; and to the earth it gave great light, and so it continued both day and night. [Refrain] 3 And by the light of that same star three wise men came from country far; to seek for a king was their intent, and to follow the star wherever it went. [Refrain] 4 This star drew nigh to the north-west, o'er Bethlehem it took its rest, and there it did both stop and stay right over the place where Jesus lay. [Refrain] 5 Then entered in those wise men three, full reverently upon their knee, and offered there in his presence their gold and myrrh and frankincense. [Refrain] 6 Then let us all with one accord sing praises to our heavenly Lord, that hath made heaven and earth of naught, and with his blood mankind hath bought. [Refrain] Topics: Life in Christ Christ Incarnate - Christmas and Epiphany; Christian Year Season of Epiphany Scripture: Hebrews 9:12 Languages: English Tune Title: THE FIRST NOWELL

No storm can shake my inmost calm

Author: Robert Lowry (1822-1899); Doris Plenn Hymnal: CH4 #565 (2005) Meter: 8.7.8.7 with refrain First Line: My life flows on in endless song Lyrics: 1 My life flows on in endless song above earth’s lamentation: I catch the sweet, though far off, hymn that hails a new creation. [Refrain:] No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I'm clinging. Since love is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing? 2 Through all the tumult and the strife, I hear that music ringing. It finds an echo in my soul -- how can I keep from singing? [Refrain] 3 What though my joys and comforts die? The Lord, my Saviour, liveth. What though the darkness round me close? Songs in the night he giveth. [Refrain] 4 The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart, a fountain ever springing. All things are mine since I am his! How can I keep from singing? [Refrain] Topics: Life in Christ Our Response to Christ - In Devotion; Assurance; Despair and Trouble; Music and Song Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3:21-23 Languages: English Tune Title: HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING
