Give to the winds thy fears

Author: J. Wesley Hymnal: The Voice of Praise #629 (1873) Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Scripture: Psalm 30 Lyrics: 1 Give to the winds thy fears; Hope, and be undismayed; God hears thy sighs, and counts thy tears; God shall lift up thy head: Through waves and clouds and storms He gently clears the way: Wait thou his time, so shall this night Soon end in joyous day. 2 Still heavy is thy heart? Still sink thy spirits down? Cast off the weight--let fear depart, And every care be gone. What though thou rulest not; Yet heaven and earth and hell Proclaim--God sitteth on the throne, And ruleth all things well. 3 Leave to his sov-reign sway To choose and to command; So shalt thou, wond'ring, own his way, How wise, how strong his hand! Far, far above thy thought His counsel shall appear, When fully he the work hath wrought That caused thy needless fear. Topics: The Christian Life Trial and Patience; He Ruleth All Things Well

Sometimes a Light Surprises

Author: William Cowper Hymnal: Voices Together #618 (2020) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Scripture: Psalm 30:4-5 Lyrics: 1 Sometimes a light surprises the child of God who sings: the light of one who rises with gentle, healing wings. When comforts are declining, God grants the soul again a season of clear shining, to cheer it after rain. 2 In holy contemplation with joy we shall pursue the theme of God’s salvation, and find it ever new. Set free from present sorrow we cheerfully can say, let the unknown tomorrow bring with it what it may. 3 It can bring with it nothing but God will bear us through. Who gives the lilies clothing will clothe the people, too. Beneath the spreading heavens no creature but is fed: the one who feeds the ravens will give the children bread. 4 Though vine and fig tree neither their yearly fruit should bear, though all the fields should wither, nor flocks nor herds be there, yet God, the same abiding, through praise shall tune my voice, for while in love confiding I cannot but rejoice. Sometimes a Light Surprises

Author: William Cowper Hymnal: Glory to God #800 (2013) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Scripture: Psalm 30:5 Lyrics: 1 Sometimes a light surprises the child of God who sings; it is the Lord who rises with healing in his wings; when comforts are declining, he grants the soul again a season of clear shining to cheer it after rain. 2 In holy contemplation we sweetly then pursue the theme of God’s salvation and find it ever new; set free from present sorrow, we cheerfully can say, “Let the unknown tomorrow bring with it what it may.” 3 It can bring with it nothing but he will bear us through; who gives the lilies clothing will clothe his people, too; beneath the spreading heavens no creature but is fed; and he who feeds the ravens will give his children bread. 4 Though vine nor fig tree neither their longed-for fruit should bear, though all the fields should wither, nor flocks nor herds be there, yet God the same abiding, his praise shall tune my voice; for while in him confiding, I cannot but rejoice. Through the night of doubt and sorrow

Author: Bernhardt Ingemann, 1789-1862; Sabine Baring-Gould, 1834-1924 Hymnal: Common Praise #605 (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Psalm 30:5 Lyrics: 1 Through the night of doubt and sorrow onward goes the pilgrim band, singing songs of expectation, marching to the promised land. 2 Clear before us through the darkness gleams and burns the guiding light; pilgrim clasps the hand of pilgrim, stepping fearless through the night. 3 One the light of God's own presence o'er his ransomed people shed, chasing far the gloom and terror, brightening all the path we tread: 4 One the object of our journey, one the faith which never tires, one the earnest looking forward, one the hope our God inspires: 5 One the strain that lips of thousands lift as from the heart of one; one the conflict, one the peril, one the march in God begun: 6 One the gladness of rejoicing on the far eternal shore, where the one almighty Father reigns in love for evermore. *7 Onward, therefore, pilgrim brothers, onward with the cross our aid; bear its shame, and fight its battle, till we rest beneath its shade. *8 Soon shall come the great awaking, soon the rending of the tomb; then the scattering of all shadows, and the end of toil and gloom. Welcome, Happy Morning

Author: John Ellerton Hymnal: The Worshiping Church #241 (1990) Meter: 6.5.6.5 D Scripture: Psalm 30:5 Lyrics: 1 Welcome, happy morning! age to age shall say: hell today is conquered, heaven is won today. Come then, true and faithful, now fulfill your word; this is your third morning: rise, O buried Lord! 2 Earth with joyful welcome clothes herself for spring; greets with life reviving here returning King; flowers in every pasture, leaves on every bough, speak of sorrows ended; Jesus triumphs now! 3 Author and sustainer, source of life and breath; you for our salvation trod the path of death; Jesus Christ is living, God forevermore! Now let all creation hail him and adore. 4 Loose our souls imprisoned, bound with Satan's chain; all that now is fallen, raise to life again! Show your face in brightness, shine the whole world through; hope retuns with daybreak, life returns with you. Topics: Adoration of Jesus Christ; Spring; Adoration of Jesus Christ; Easter Season; Jesus Christ Ever-living; Jesus Christ Presence of; Spring Languages: English Tune Title: NOEL NOUVELET
