I Will Not Always Walk This Earth

Author: Daniel Charles Damon Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Micah 6:8 Lyrics: 1 I will not always walk this earth with gentle step and caring heart, but now I pray, prepare, and give to lasting good and living art. 2 My back is strong. My mind is sound. Today I lift and carry on, but future generations wake to worship in an unknown dawn. 3 What can I do with what I have to help the church in years ahead? What gift can I now place in trust for future needs for home or bread? 4 For children's children yet to come like flowers living life's brief span, I give this church a lasting gift, a pledge, a promise, and a plan. 5 So come with me, come as you are to celebrate this time on earth, to sing with hope of future years, to trust the Spirit for new birth. God, Who Called Us Through the Prophets

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Micah 6:8 Lyrics: 1 God, who called us through the prophets to be merciful and fair, and in Jesus, walked among us, teaching us to love and care, send your Spirit now, renew us, that together we may be one in faith and one in mission, one in our diversity. 2 When we ponder sacred scriptures, when we come to you in prayer, let us see with new-found vision what we’re called to do and dare. As more truth and light are springing daily from your Holy Word, and your thoughts invade our thinking, help us act on what we’ve heard. 3 Fill us with your grace and wisdom, give us courage that we may, like the saints gone on before us, meet life’s challenges today. Help us trust in one another, even when we disagree, show respect in hard decisions, work for peace and harmony. 4 Make our church a sanctuary for each one who needs a friend: poor and immigrant and outcast, who on kindness now depend. As we gather at your table, may they always find a place and, in sharing bread and chalice, know, with us, your healing grace. 5 God of mercy, God of justice, we give thanks that we belong to a people, loved and loving, rich and needy, weak and strong. You have blessed our past and present, bless the future we await. Keep us faithful to our mission, as your love we celebrate. Topics: Church Used With Tune: PROPHETS' CALL

How Glad We Are to Be Alive

Author: Mary Nelson Keithahn Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Micah 6:8 Lyrics: 1 How glad we are to be alive to sing your praise today, and thank you, God, for gifts of grace we never can repay: our lives begun in parents’ love and nurtured in their care, creative minds inclined to learn, and hearts to dream and dare. 2 By grace we came to study here where doors were opened wide by wise and caring teachers who became both friend and guide. We learned to think, reflect, and act, to differ and concur, explored new worlds within, without, discovered who we were. 3 Your gifts of grace have blessed us all! How great a debt we owe to you, our God, for granting us a chance to learn and grow, and, as we’ve gone forth in the world, providing us the means, and giving us the courage to pursue our lifelong dreams. 4 Could joyful songs our gratitude and praise alone declare, from dawn to dusk we’d harmonize on alleluia airs! Yet from your prophets we have learned you ask for more than song; you call for justice, peace, and love where there is hurt and wrong. 5 Most merciful and gracious God, we promise you today we’ll try to give back what we owe by walking in your way, by being kind to those in need, and helping those who fall, by seeking justice for the poor, and peace for one and all.
