Then I Saw a New Heaven and Earth

Author: Christopher M. Idle Meter: Irregular Appears in 5 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 22:1-5 Lyrics: 1 Then I saw a new heaven and earth, for the first had passed away; and the holy city came down from God like a bride on her wedding day. And I know how he loves his own, for I heard his great voice tell they would be his people, and he their God, and among them he came to dwell. 2 He will wipe away every tear; even death shall die at last. There'll be no more crying or grief or pain they belong to the world that's past. And the One on the throne said, "Look! I am making all things new." He is A and Z, he is first and last, and his words are exact and true. 3 So the thirsty can drink their fill at the fountain giving life. But the gates are shut on all evil things, on deceit and decay and strife. With foundations and walls and towers like a jewel, the city shines, with its streets of gold and its gates of pearl, in a glory where each combines. 4 As they measured its length and breadth I could see no temple there, for its only temple is God the Lord and the Lamb in that city fair. And it needs neither sun nor moon in a place which knows no night, for the city's lamp is the Lamb himself, and the glory of God its light. 5 And I saw by the sacred throne flowing water, crystal clear, and the tree of life with its healing leaves and its fruit growing all the year. So the worshipers of the Lamb bear his name and see his face, and they reign and serve and forever live to the praise of his glorious grace. A Child's Song of Heaven

Author: M. N. Meter: 13.14.13.14.13.14 Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 22:1-5 First Line: I want to see the city away beyond the sky Refrain First Line: I want to go to Heaven, that Home so bright and fair Lyrics: Refrain: I want to go to Heaven, that Home so bright and fair; So beautiful, and—best of all—Dear Jesus will be there! 1 I want to see the city away beyond the sky, With pearly gates and walls of shining stones so great and high; Beside the crystal river there is a fruitful tree; And, oh, I want to see the mansions made for you and me! [Refrain] 2 I never will get hurt there, I’ll never have to cry; No pain or sickness there in Heav’n, and none will ever die; There Satan cannot tempt me to even once be bad, For sin can never enter Heav’n—I’ll be so safe, so glad! [Refrain] 3 I’ll see old Noah, Moses, Elijah, Daniel, Paul, And all the millions since that time who gave to God their all; The many little children who’ve died before they’re old Are singing ’round the throne of God, and play on streets of gold! [Refrain] 4 Oh, there I’ll be so happy with friends both old and young; The lame and blind, now healed and well, praise God in endless song; The angels too will join us; and dressed in spotless white, We’ll not get tired of praising God, for there there is no night! [Refrain] Used With Tune: [I want to see the city away beyond the sky] Text Sources: Timeless Truths (http://library.timelesstruths.org/music/A_Childs_Song_of_Heaven); Martha Nighswander, Motivating Memorization, 1998 (page 57).
