1892 - 1987 Scripture: Daniel 12:3 Composer of "LOVELESS" in Great Songs of the Church (Revised) Rv Wendell Phillips Loveless USA 1892-1987, Born in Wheaton, IL, he first engaged in business in Chicago. In 1914 he became a member of an entertainment group that toured the U.S. on the Chatauqua circuit. Spending six years with the group he learned voice, piano, dramatics, and MC duties, later managing the group. He later used these talents in Christian ministry. In 1917 he married Velma Stone, and they had three children: Robert, David, and Wendell Jr. He was a Lieutenant in the Marine Corps during WWI. He was converted through reading the Bible at home. He joined the Moody Bible Institute (MBI) in 1926, first as business manager of the extension department. He later became director of the Moody Bible Institute radio station WMBI in Chicago from 1926-1947. He then became an itinerant Bible teacher. He later pastored the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, Community Church in Boca Raton, FL, and First Chinese Church of Christ in Honolulu, HI, continuing his radio ministry in the last two locations (also managing station KAIM Honolulu). In 1960 he assigned all his copyrights to Hope Publishing Company. He wrote popular songs and choruses, many found in hymnals published by Hope, and some translated into other languages. He authored several books: “Glimpses of Christ n Psalm IX” (1937); “Sunrise meditations” (1940); “New radio songs & choruses of the gospel #3” (1940); New radio songs & choruses of the gospel #4” (1942); “Little talks on great words” (1942?); “Christ and the believer in the Song of Songs” (1945); “Plain talks on practical truths” (1945); “New sunrise meditations” (1945); “Manual of gospel broadcasting” (1946); “Plain talks on Romans” (1946); “New radio songs & choruses of the gospel #5” (1946). Horatio Nelson

1823 - 1913 Person Name: Horatio Nelson, 1823-1913 Scripture: Daniel 12 Author of "By All Your Saints Still Striving" in Moravian Book of Worship Earl Nelson was born in 1823. He was educated at Eton, and Trinity College, Cambridge. He is a relative of England's greatest naval hero. An active layman, he has been of service to the Church in many of her religious and benevolent enterprises. In hymnology he has taken a prominent position; his own hymns are most creditable, and he has been foremost in compiling the Sarum Hymnal, a work of the best character. This hymnal was compiled in 1857, with the assistance of John Keble, at the request of the Bishop of Salisbury. Its first title was The Salisbury Hymn Book. Its popularity was very great. In 1868 it was revised and is now known as The Sarum Hymnal. Earl Nelson has also published a few other works, mostly of a devotional character. --Annotations of the Hymnal, Charles Hutchins, M.A., 1872 Nelson, Horatio, 3rd Earl Nelson, son of Mr. Thomas Bolton, of Burnham, Norfolk (nephew of the celebrated Admiral Viscount Nelson, whose name he assumed on succeeding to the title as 2nd Earl); was born Aug. 7, 1823, and educated at Eton, and at Trinity College, Cambridge. He succeeded to the title Nov. 1, 1835. In 1857 he edited the Salisbury Hymn-Book. In this work he was assisted by J. Keble, who re-wrote some of the older hymns and translated others from the Latin. This collection was remodelled and published as the Sarum Hymnal in 1868. In the preparation of this work Earl Nelson was assisted by the Revs. J. R. Woodford (afterwards Bishop of Ely) and E. A. Dayman. In 1864 he published his Hymn for Saint’s Day, and other Hymns. In this appeared the hymn by which he is most widely known, “From all Thy saints in warfare, for all Thy saints at rest" (p. 398, ii.). He has also published A Form of Family Prayer, with Special Offices for the Seasons, 1852; and A Calendar of Lessons for Every Day in the Year, 1857. Melchior Teschner

1584 - 1635 Scripture: Daniel 12 Composer of "ST. THEODULPH" in Moravian Book of Worship Melchior Teschner (b. Fraustadt [now Wschowa, Poland], Silesia, 1584; d. Oberpritschen, near Fraustadt, 1635) studied philosophy, theology, and music at the University of Frankfurt an-der-Oder and later studied at the universities of Helmstedt and Wittenberg, Germany. From 1609 until 1614 he served as cantor in the Lutheran church in Fraustadt, and from 1614 until his death he was pastor of the church in Oberpritschen. Bert Polman

Judson W. Van DeVenter

Van DeVenter was born 15 December 1855 on a farm near the village of Dundee, Michigan. He was educated in the country and village schools, and at Hillsdale College. He later moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. He wrote about 100 hymns. M. B. Landstad

1802 - 1880 Person Name: Magnus B. Landstad, 1802-1880 Scripture: Daniel 12:2-3 Author of "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name" in Christian Worship Magnus Brostrup Landstad (born 7 October 1802 in Måsøy, Norway and died 8 October 1880 in Kristiania) was a Norwegian minister, psalmist and poet who published the first collection of authentic Norwegian traditional ballads in 1853. This work was criticized for unscientific methods, but today it is commonly accepted that he contributed significantly to the preservation of the traditional ballads. Landstad lived with his father Hans Landstad (1771–1838) who was also a minister, first in 1806 to Øksnes, to Vinje in 1811 and to Seljord in 1819. He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years. After that he worked in different parishes in Telemark, Østfold before he became minister of Sandar in Vestfold in 1859. He married Wilhelmine Margrete Marie Lassen, in 1828. He is well known for introducing popular, contemporary Norwegian language into the hymns he wrote, contributing significantly to the spirit of Norwegian romantic nationalism which grew in Norway in this period. His greatest single achievement was the Landstad Hymnbook (Kirkepsalmebog), which with later revisions was used in Norwegian (bokmål) parishes from 1869 until 1985. The current official church hymnbook contains a lot of his hymns and his translations of foreign hymns. He was the cousin of Hans Peter Schnitler Krag. The Landstad-institute, which lies in Seljord, is named after him. He was a great grandfather of Magny Landstad, also a famous writer. Publications-- 1852: Norske Folkeviser. 3 vols. Christiania: C.
