Sing, my tongue, how glorious battle

Author: Venantius Honorius Clementianus Fortunatus (c. 535-609); John Mason Neale (1818-1866); William Mair (1830-1920); Arthur Wellesley Wotherspoon (1853-1936) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Appears in 6 hymnals Scripture: Luke 9:51 Lyrics: 1 Sing, my tongue, how glorious battle glorious victory became; and above the cross, his trophy, tell the triumph and the fame: tell how he, the earth's Redeemer, by his death for all o'ercame. 2 When the thirty years were ended, humbly lived for all to see, willingly he met his passion, born to set his people free: on the cross the Lamb is lifted, there the sacrifice to be. 3 His the nails, the spear, the spitting, reed and vinegar and gall; from his patient body piercèd blood and water streaming fall: earth and sea and stars and mankind by that stream are cleansèd all. 4 Faithful cross, above all other, one and only noble tree, none in foliage, none in blossom, none in fruit your match can be: focus of the world's redemption, your dear burden makes us free. 5 Praise and honour to the Father, praise and honour to the Son, praise and honour to the Spirit, ever Three and ever One, one in might, and one in glory, while eternal ages run. Transfigured Christ, None Comprehends

Author: Alan Gaunt (1935-) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Luke 9:28-36 Lyrics: 1 Transfigured Christ, none comprehends your majesty, whose splendour stuns all waking souls; whose light transcends the brightness of a thousand suns! 2 You stand with Moses on the hill, you speak of your new exodus. The way through death, you will fulfil by dying helpless on the cross. 3 You stand here with Elijah too, by whom the still small voice was heard: and you, yourself, will prove God true, made mute in death, incarnate Word. 4 If we could bear your brightness here and stay for ever in your light, then we would conquer grief and fear, and scorn the terrors of the night. 5 But, from the heights, you bring us down, to share earth's agonies with you, where piercing thorns are made your crown and death, accepted, proves love true. 6 Majestic Christ, God's well-loved son, if we must share your grief and loss, transfigure us, when all is done, with glory shining from your cross. Topics: Transfiguration Used With Tune: BROCKHAM
