Edward Miller

1735 - 1807 Person Name: Edward Miller, 1731-1807 Scripture: Matthew 23:33-39 Adapter of "ROCKINGHAM" in Lift Up Your Hearts Edward Miller, Born in the United Kingdom. The son of a pavior (stone paver), Miller left home to study music at King's Lynn. He was a flautist in Handel's orchestra. In 1752 he published “Six Solos for the German Flute”. In 1756 he was appointed organist of St. George Minster Doncaster, continuing in that post for 50 years. He also gave pianoforte lessons. He published hymns and sonatas for harpsichord, 16 editions of “The Institues of Music”, “Elegies for Voice & Pianoforte”, and Psalms of David set to music, arranged for each Sunday of the year. That work had over 5000 subscribers. He published his thoughts on performance of Psalmody in the Church of England, addressed to clergy. In 1801 he published the Psalms of Watts and Wesley for use by Methodists, and in 1804 the history and antiques of Doncaster with a map. John Perry

1850 - 1909 Scripture: Matthew 23:8 Composer of "[Sing of Jesus our Shepherd]" in Good Will John W. Bischoff was born in 1849, became blind at the age of two years, came to the Congregational Church as organist and choir-director at the age of twenty-five, and remained thirty-five years up to the date of his death on Memorial Day, May 30, 1909. He was a prolific composer, most of his work being of the lyric style. In his first book, Crystal Songs, compiled in 1877 with the assistance of Otis F. Presbrey, there are thirty-two tunes of his compoistion. During many years of his service he provided music loves with a series of monthly concerts, at which a high grade of music was rendered.
