As stars adorn the night-veiled sky

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr. (b. 1944) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 4 hymnals Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9 Lyrics: 1 As stars adorn the night-veiled sky, arrayed like jewels rare and bright, so shine God's saints in every age to give the world new hope, new light. 2 The light saints bear is not their own but shines through them as gift and sign: to show how God can use and bless frail human means for ends divine. 3 Through saints we glimpse the light of Christ, the Morning Star that crowns the night, whose rising heralds God's new day, the promised dawn of life and light. 4 That light is ours to claim and share, not merely praise or gaze upon: for all who are baptized become light-bearers through the Risen One. 5 The saints inspire and challenge us our holy calling to embrace: to bear Christ's light in our own day, to be the vessels of God's grace. As newborn stars were stirred to song

Author: Carl P. Daw Jr. (b. 1944) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9 Lyrics: 1 As newborn stars were stirred to song when all things came to be, as Miriam and Moses sang when Israel was set free, so music bursts unbidden forth when God-filled hearts rejoice, to waken awe and gratitude and give mute faith a voice. 2 In psalms that raise the singer’s sense to universal truths, in prophet’s dark-toned oracle or hymn of three brave youths: the song of faith and praise endured through those God called to be a chosen people bearing light for all the world to see. 3 When God’s redeeming Word took flesh to make salvation sure, unheeding hearts attuned to strife refused love’s overture. Yet to the end the song went on: a supper’s parting hymn, a psalm intoned on dying lips when sun and hope grew dim. 4 But silence won no vict’ry there; a rest was all it scored before glad alleluias rose to greet the risen Lord. The church still keeps that song alive, for death has lost its sting, and with the gift of life renewed the heart will ever sing. Topics: Hymns and Spiritual Songs Praise Used With Tune: ALEXANDRA
