Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

Author: Henry van Dyke Hymnal: CH1995 #2 (1995) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive our fear and doubt away; giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day. All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heaven reflect thy rays, stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea, chanting bird and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in thee. Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest, well-spring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest! Thou the Father, Christ our Brother, all who live in love are thine; teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine. Mortals, join the happy chorus; stars of morning, take your part; love divine is reigning o'er us, binding those of tender heart. Ever singing, move we onward, victors in the midst of strife, joyful music lifts us sunward in the triumph song of life. Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above

Author: Johann J. Schütz; Frances E. Cox Hymnal: CH1995 #6 (1995) Meter: 8.7.87.8.8.7 Lyrics: 1 Sing praise to God who reigns above, the God of all creation, the God of power, the God of love, the God of our salvation. With healing balm my soul is filled and every faithless murmur stilled: to God all praise and glory! 2 Our God is never far away, but through all grief distressing, an ever present help and stay, our peace and joy and blessing. As with a mother's tender hand God gently leads the chosen band; to God all praise and glory! 3 Then all my gladsome way along I sing aloud your praises that all may hear the grateful song my voice unwearied raises. Be joyful in the Lord, my heart, both soul and body take your part; to God all praise and glory! 4 Let all who name Christ's holy name give God all praise and glory; let all who own God's power proclaim around the wondrous story! Cast each false idol from its throne, for Christ is Lord, and Christ alone; to God all praise and glory! Topics: God Beyond All Name and Form Praise to God; God; God: Faithfulness; Music and Singing; Praise; Processional Hymns; Proclamation; Grief Languages: English Tune Title: MIT FREUDEN ZART

When in Our Music God Is Glorified

Author: Fred Pratt Green Hymnal: CH1995 #7 (1995) Meter: 10.10.10 with alleluia Lyrics: When, in our music, God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride, it is as though the whole creation cried, "Alleluia!" How often, making music, we have found a new dimension in the world of sound, as worship moved us to a more profound "Alleluia!" So has the church, in liturgy and song, in faith and love, through centuries of wrong, borne witness to the truth in every tongue: "Alleluia!" And did not Jesus sing a Psalm that night when utmost evil strove against the Light? Then let us sing, for whom he won the fight: "Alleluia!" Let every instrument be tuned for praise! Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise! And may God give us faith to sing always: "Alleluia!"
