How Marvelous God's Greatness

Author: Valdimar Briem; Chalres Venn Pilcher Hymnal: Hymns to the Living God #34 (2017) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D First Line: How marvelous God's greatness! Lyrics: 1 How marvelous God's greatness! How glorious His might! To this the world bears witness in wonders day and night - in form of flow'r and snowflake, in morn's resplendent birth, in afterglow at even, in sky and sea and earth. 2 Each tiny flow'ret whispers the great Life-giver's Name; the mighty mountain masses His majesty proclaim; the hollow vales are hymning God's shelter for His own; the snowcapped peaks are pointing to God's almighty throne. 3 The ocean's vast abysses in one grand psalm record the deep mysterious counsels and mercies of the Lord; the icy waves of winter are thund'ring on the strand; and grief's chill stream is guided by God's all gracious hand. 4 The starry hosts are singing thro' all the light strewn sky of God's eternal temple and palace courts on high; when in these outer chambers such glory gilds the night, O, what transcendent brightness is God's eternal light! While yet the Morn is Breaking

Author: Johannes Muhlmann, 1578-1613 Hymnal: Hymnal and Order of Service #168 (1901) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Lyrics: 1 While yet the morn is breaking, I thank my God once more, Beneath whose care awaking, I find the night is o'er; I thank Him that He calls me To life and health anew, I know, whate'er befalls me, His care will still be true. 2 Guardian of Israel, hear me, Watch o'er me through the day, In all I do be near me: For others too I pray; To Thee I would commend them, Our church, our youth, our land, Direct them and defend them, When dangers are at hand. 3 Oh! gently grant Thy blessing, That we may do Thy will, No more Thy ways transgressing, Our proper task fulfill; With Peter's full affiance Let down our nets again, If Thou art our reliance, Our toil will not be vain. 4 Thou art the Vine--oh! nourish The branches graft in Thee, And let them grow and flourish, A fair and fruitful tree; Thy Spirit put within us, And let His gifts of grace To all good actions win us, That best may show His praise. Sometimes a Light Surprises

Author: William Cowper Hymnal: Hymns to the Living God #309 (2017) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Lyrics: 1 Sometimes a light surprises the Christian while he sings; it is the Lord who rises with healing in His wings; when comforts are declining, He grants the soul again a season of clear shining, to cheer it after rain. 2 In holy contemplation, we sweetly then pursue the theme of God’s salvation, and find it ever new. Set free from present sorrow, we cheerfully can say, “E'en let the unknown morrow bring with it what it may.” 3 "It can bring with it nothing, but He will bear us through; who gives the lilies clothing will clothe His people, too; beneath the spreading heavens no creature but is fed; and He who feeds the ravens will give His children bread." 4 Though vine nor fig tree neither their wonted fruit should bear, though all the field should wither, nor flocks nor herds be there, yet God the same abiding, His praise shall tune my voice; for while in Him confiding, I cannot but rejoice. Topics: Comfort, Death, and Glory Languages: English Tune Title: BLOMSTERTID
