Alleluia! Sing to Jesus

Author: William Chatterton Dix (1837-1898) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 214 hymnals Scripture: Hebrews 9:24-28 Lyrics: 1 Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! His the sceptre, his the throne; alleluia! his the triumph, his the victory alone. Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood; Jesus, out of every nation, hath redeemed us by his blood. 2 Alleluia! Not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; alleluia! he is near us, faith believes, nor questions how. Though the cloud from sight received him, when the forty days were o'er, shall our hearts forget his promise, "I am with you evermore"? 3 Alleluia! Bread of Heaven, thou on earth our food, our stay: alleluia! here the sinful flee to thee from day to day; Intercessor, Friend of sinners, earth's Redeemer, plead for me, where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea. 4 Alleluia! King eternal, thee the Lord of lords we own: Alleluia! born of Mary, earth thy footstool, heaven thy throne. Thou within the veil hast entered, robed in flesh, our great high priest: thou on earth both priest and victim in the eucharistic feast. 5 Alleluia! Sing to Jesus! His the sceptre, his the throne; alleluia! his the triumph, his the victory alone. Hark! The songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood; Jesus, out of every nation, hath redeemed us by his blood. Topics: Eucharist; Jesus, the Priest; Praise of God; Ascension and Exaltation Used With Tune: HYFRYDOL

Approach, my soul, the mercy-seat

Author: John Newton, 1725-1807 Appears in 612 hymnals Scripture: Hebrews 9:1-5 First Line: Approach, my soul, the mercy seat Lyrics: 1 Approach, my soul, the mercy seat, where Jesus answers prayer; there humbly fall before his feet, for none can perish there. 2 Thy promise is my only plea; with this I venture nigh: thou callest burdened souls to thee, and such, O Lord, am I. 3 Bowed down beneath a load of sin, by Satan sorely pressed, by war without and fears within, I come to thee for rest. 4 Be thou my shield and hiding-place, that, sheltered near thy side, I may my fierce accuser face, and tell him thou hast died. 5 O wondrous love! to bleed and die, to bear the cross and shame, that guilty sinners, such as I, might plead thy gracious name. Topics: Cross; God in Christ; Lent; Prayer / Prayers / Poems; Repentance; Rest; Sin / Sinner Used With Tune: BALERMA

Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Glory to God #212 (2013) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Scripture: Hebrews 9:12-16 Lyrics: 1 Alas! And did my Savior bleed, and did my Sovereign die! Would he devote that sacred head for sinners such as I! 2 Was it for sins that I have done he suffered on the tree? Amazing pity! Grace unknown! And love beyond degree! 3 Well might the sun in darkness hide and shut its glories in, when Christ, the great Redeemer, died for human creatures' sin. 4 But drops of grief can ne'er repay the debt of love I owe; here, Lord, I give myself away; 'tis all that I can do.
