Refrain: Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus, May I feel that Thou art nigh; Let me rest upon Thy promise, “I will guide Thee with mine eye.” 2 Guide me when the shadows o’er me To my vision dark appear; Let me see my way before me, As at noonday bright and clear. [Refrain] 3 Guide my thoughts lest they should wander To the empty dreams of earth; Let me on Thy goodness ponder, Yea, on things of heav’nly worth. [Refrain] 4 Guide my words that they be spoken In such kind and loving way; They may heal a heart that’s broken, Someone’s darkness turn to day. [Refrain] 5 Guide my actions, O my Father, Guide my soul to heaven’s shore; Thee I’ll follow and no other, Be my guide forevermore. [Refrain] Select Hymns, 1911 (Timeless Truths) Used With Tune: [With Thine eye, O Savior, guide me]

Clara McAlister Brooks

1882 - 1980 Person Name: Clara M. Brooks Hymnal Title: Timeless Truths Author of "Guide Me" in Timeless Truths Birth: Oct. 9, 1882, Parke County, Indiana, USA Death: Mar. 20, 1980, Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, USA Clara McAlister Brooks was one of our early songwriters and four of her pieces are in the current hymnal. From the earliest days of the movement we have had women prominent in all forms of our ministry—missionaries, evangelists, teachers, pastors, and God has honored their sacrificial labors. For that reason we can stand in amazement when here, in the 1970s, such old-line denominations as the Episcopal church are being racked with controversy over whether the ordination of women is permissible. But before we gather Pharisaic robes about ourselves, perhaps we need to look candidly at the way in which we, too, succumbed to some of the cultural and prejudicial patterns of later decades! --www.whwomenclergy.org/articles/
