Person Name: Anon. Author of "Again, from calm and sweet repose" in Hymns for the Sanctuary and Social Worship In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

1759 - 1823 Author of "Again, from calm and sweet repose" Rev. Charles Philpot (1759-1823) Charles Philpot of Leicestershire, entered Emmanuel College Cambridge as a pensioner in 1775 (B.A. 1780, M.A. 1787) where he twice won the Seatonian Prize (1790, 1791). Philpot was ordained in 1793 and was Rector of Ripple, Kent (1793-1823) and Vicar of St. Margaret-at-Cliffe (1813-23). --www.spenserians.cath.vt.edu
