I Shall be Satisfied

Author: G. C. Well Hymnal: Triumphant Songs No.4 #72 (1894) First Line: If I in Thy likeness, O Lord may awake Lyrics: 1 If I in Thy likeness, O Lord may awake, And shine a pure image of Thee; Then I shall be satisfied when I can break The fetters of flesh and be free. Refrain: I shall be satisfied; I shall be satisfied I shall be satisfied; When I awake in Thy likeness. 2 I know this stained tablet must first be washed white And there Thy bright features be drawn; I know I must suffer the darkness of night To welcome the coming of dawn. [Refrain] 3 And O the blest morning already is here, The shadows of earth soon shall fade; And soon in Thy likeness I'll with Thee appear, In glory and beauty array’d. [Refrain] 4 When on thine own image in me Thou hast smiled, Within Thy blest mansion, and when The arms of my Father encircle His child, O! I shall be satisfied then. [Refrain] Tune Title: [If I in Thy likeness, O Lord may awake]

I Shall Be Satisfied

Author: George Clair Wells Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #14726 First Line: If I in Thy likeness, oh Lord, may awake Refrain First Line: I shall be satisfied; I shall be satisfied Lyrics: 1 If I in Thy likeness, oh Lord, may awake, And shine a pure image of Thee, Then I shall be satisfied when I can break The fetters of flesh and be free. Refrain: I shall be satisfied; I shall be satisfied, I shall be satisfied, When I awake in Thy likeness. 2 I know this stained tablet must first be washed white, To let Thy bright features be drawn; I know I must suffer the darkness of night, To welcome the coming of dawn. [Refrain] 3 But I shall be satisfied when I can cast The shadows of nature all by, When this cold, dreary world from my vision has passed, To let the soul open her eye. [Refrain] 4 I gladly shall feel the blest morn drawing near, When time’s dreamy fancy shall fade, If then in Thy likeness I may but appear, And rise in Thy beauty arrayed. [Refrain] 5 To see Thee in glory, oh Lord, as Thou art, From this mortal, perishing clay, The spirit immortal in peace would depart, And joyous mount up her bright way. [Refrain] 6 When on Thine image, in me Thou hast smiled, Within Thy blest mansions, and when The arms of my Father encircle His child, Oh, I shall be satisfied then. [Refrain] Languages: English Tune Title: [If I in Thy likeness, oh Lord, may awake]

If I in thy likeness, O Lord, may awake

Author: Anon. Hymnal: The Seventh-Day Adventist Hymn and Tune Book #968 (1886) Lyrics: 1 If I thy likeness, O Lord, may awake, And shine, a pure image of thee, Then I shall be satisfied, when I can break The fetters of death, and be free. 2 I know this stained tablet must first be washed white, To let thy bright features be drawn; I know I must suffer the darkness of night, To welcome the coming of dawn. 3 O, I shall be satisfied when I can cast The shadow of nature all by, When this dreary world from my vision is passed, To live in an unclouded day. 4 I feel the blest morning begins to draw near, When time's dreary fancy shall fade; O, then in thy likeness may I but appear, In glory and beauty arrayed! 5 When on thine own image in me thou hast smiled, Within thy blest mansion, and when The arms of my Father encircle his child, Or I shall be satisfied then! Anonymous

Person Name: Anon. Author of "If I in thy likeness, O Lord, may awake" in The Seventh-Day Adventist Hymn and Tune Book In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.
