Oliver Cooper Hymnal: Melodies of Love #73 First Line: Hear my prayer, Lord Jesus Refrain First Line: Blessed Jesus, lead me on Lyrics: 1 Hear my prayer, Lord Jesus, I'm in need of a friend, to guide me. My Life Is Thine, Lord Jesus

Author: J. Woodfall Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #4428 Meter: 7.6.8.6 D Lyrics: 1. My life is Thine, Lord Jesus, Bought with Thy blood divine, And giv’n to Thee with gladness, No longer mine, but Thine. My heart is Thine, my Savior, Not part, but all Thine own; Oh, it is sweet to know that there Thou hast Thy royal throne! 2. My body I have yielded, A sacrifice to be, Oh, keep me pure and holy, Lord! A temple meet for Thee. My members, too, are Thine, Lord; To Thee I all resign; Then use them for Thy glory now, And live Thy life through mine. 3. My house is Thine, Lord Jesus, And all that I possess; Use it for whatsoe’er Thou wilt, Thou comest but to bless. The gold that came from Thee, Lord, To Thee belongeth still; Oh, may I always faithfully My stewardship fulfill! 4. Yea, everything is Thine, Lord, Let this my portion be— That I have nothing of my own, And yet have all in Thee. And make my life, Lord Jesus, Brightly for Thee to shine: That word and deed, that look and tone, May witness I am Thine. Languages: English Tune Title: DETROIT

Shine In My Heart, Lord Jesus

Author: Francis P. Griffith Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #7895 Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Lyrics: 1 Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus, And lead me into light; Dispel each cloud and shadow And chase away my night; Shine on my soul, O Jesus, And warm me with Thy love, Oh, help me when I need Thee, Thy faithfulness to prove. 2 Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus; I need Thee every day To help me keep Thy statutes To walk the narrow way; Oh, leave me not, my Savior, Or else I faint, I fall; Come in Thy might and help me When Thou dost hear me call. 3 Increase my faith, Lord Jesus, May Thy dear precious blood Of sin completely cleanse me And make me pure and good; Increase my love, O Jesus, And bind my heart to Thee, So when my days are numbered Thy smile of love I’ll see. And when the king of terrors Shall stand across my way, Oh, help me to go forward, Regardless of his sway: Thy rod and staff to help me, My safety will ensure, And with the Father’s favor, I’ll rest in love secure. Lord Jesus Christ, My Life, My Light

Author: Catherine Winkworth; Martin Behm Hymnal: The Lutheran Hymnal #148 (1941) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Lord Jesus Christ, my Life, my Light, My Strength by day, my Trust by night, On earth I'm but a passing guest And sorely by my sins opprest. 2 Far off I see my fatherland, Where thro' Thy blood I hope to stand. But ere I reach that Paradise, A weary way before me lies. 3 My heart sinks at the journey's length, My wasted flesh has little strength; My soul alone still cries in me: "Lord, take me home, take me to Thee!" 4 Oh let Thy suff'rings give me pow'r To meet the last and darkest hour! Thy blood refresh and comfort me; Thy bonds and fetters make me free. 5 Oh, let Thy holy wounds for me Clefts in the rock forever be Where as a dove my soul can hide And safe from Satan's rage abide. 6 And when my spirit flies away, The dying words shall be my stay. Thy cross shall be my staff in life, Thy holy grave my rest from strife. 7 Lord, in Thy nail-prints let me read That Thou to save me hast decreed And grant that in Thine opened side My troubled soul may ever hide. 8 Since Thou hast died, the Pure, the Just, I take my homeward way in trust. The gates of heaven, Lord, open wide When here I may no more abide. 9 And when the last Great Day shall come And Thou, our Judge, shalt speak the doom, Let me with joy behold the light And set me then upon Thy right. 10 Renew this wasted flesh of mine That like the sun it there may shine Among the angels pure and bright, Yea, like Thyself in glorious light. 11 Ah, then I'll have my hearts' desire, When, singing with the angels' choir, Among the ransomed of Thy grace, Forever I'll behold Thy face. And when the last great day shall come And Thou, our judge, shalt speak the doom, Let me with joy behold the light And set me then upon Thy right. 10. Renew this wasted flesh of mine That like the sun it there may shine Among the angels pure and bright, Yea, like Thyself in glorious light. 11. Ah, then I’ll have my heart’s desire, When, singing with the angels’ choir, Among the ransomed of Thy grace, Forever I’ll behold Thy face! Languages: English Tune Title: O JESU CHRIST, MEIN'S

Lord Jesus Christ, my Life, my Light

Hymnal: Evangelical Lutheran Hymnal. 9th ed. #a437 (1895) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Lord Jesus Christ, my Life, my Light, My Strength by day, my Trust by night, On earth I'm but a passing guest, And sorely by my sins oppressed. 2 Far off I see my fatherland, Where through Thy grace I hope to stand; But ere I reach that Paradise A weary way before me lies. 3 My heart sinks at the journey's length, My wasted flesh has little strength; Only my soul still cries in me, Lord, fetch me home, take me to Thee. 4 O let Thy sufferings give me power To meet the last and darkest hour; Thy cross the staff whereon I lean, My couch the grave where Thou hast been. 5 Since Thou hast died, the Pure, the Just, I take my homeward way in trust; The gates of heav'n, Lord, open wide, When here I may no more abide. 6 And when the last great day is come And Thou, our Judge, shalt speak the doom, Let me with joy behold the light, And set me then upon Thy right. 7 Renew this wasted flesh of mine, That like the sun it there may shine Among the angels pure and bright, Yea, like Thyself in glorious light. 8 Then I shall have my heart's desire, When, singing with the angels' choir, Among the ransomed of Thy grace, Forever I behold Thy face. I Was a Guilty Sinner

Author: Anon. Hymnal: Choice Hymns of the Faith #109 (1944) First Line: Lord Jesus! my Savior! how vast Thy love to me Lyrics: 1 Lord Jesus! my Savior! how vast Thy love to me; I’ll bathe in its full ocean to all eternity, And wending on to glory this all my song shall be: “I was a guilty sinner, but Jesus died for me.” 2 O Calv’ry! O Calv’ry; the thorn-crown and the spear There doth Thy love, Lord Jesus, in bleeding wounds appear; Oh, depths of grace and mercy, to those dear wounds I flee; “I was a guilty sinner, but Jesus died for me.” 3 Adore Him, adore Him, the glorious work is done; And now He’ll not condemn me, ‘twas laid upon His Son; ‘Tis finished cried the Savior, and I my title see; “I was a guilty sinner, but Jesus died for me.” 4 In glory, in glory, “forever with the Lord,” I’ll tune my harp with others, and sing with sweet accord; And as we praise together, this all my song shall be: “I was a guilty sinner, but Jesus died for me.” Languages: English Tune Title: [Lord Jesus! my Savior! how vast Thy love to me]

Lord Jesus, When My Courage Fails

Author: Shirley Erena Murray Hymnal: New Hymns of Hope #151 Meter: 8.10.8.10.10.8 Lyrics: Lord Jesus, when my courage fails, when my familiar world is falling apart, when light is lost to shades of grey, then give to me again a trusting heart: refresh in me the confidence to know your love that will not let me go. Lord Jesus, when my body fails and inner demons bar the way to hope, when drear depression pulls me down, then give my struggling spirit strength to cope, that, trustful in the good, I see God's hand in things I do not understand. Yours is the human face of God, who feels with us in loneliness and pain, yours is the alchemy of love who changes grievous losses into gain, you bring the Spirit's power, the Spirit's breath that lifts us into life from death. Lord Jesus Christ, in Thee alone

Hymnal: Christian Hymns #273 (1898) Meter: 8.4.8 Lyrics: 1 Lord Jesus Christ, in Thee alone My only hope on earth I place; For other comforter is none, No help have I but in Thy grace. There is no man nor creature here, No angel in the heavenly sphere, Who in my need can succor me; I cry to Thee, For Thee I trust implicitly. 2 My sin is sore and very great, I mourn beneath its grievous load; O free me from this heavy weight, My Saviour, through Thy precious blood; And with Thy Father for me plead That Thou hast suffered in my stead; From me the burden then is rolled. Lord, I lay hold On Thy dear promises of old. 3 And of Thy mercy now bestow True Christian faith on me, O Lord! That all the sweetness I may know Which in Thy holy cross is stored; Love Thee o'er earthly pride or pelf, And love my neighbor as myself; And when at last is come my end, Be Thou my friend, From Satan’s wiles my soul defend. 4 Glory to God in highest heaven, The Father of eternal love; To His dear Son, for sinners given, Whose watchful grace we daily prove; To God the Holy Ghost on high,-- O ever be His comfort nigh, And teach us, free from sin and fear, To please Him here, And serve Him in the sinless sphere.
