We Three Kings of Orient Are

Author: John Henry Hopkins Jr. Meter: 8.8.8.6 with refrain Appears in 311 hymnals Hymnal Title: Glory to God Refrain First Line: O star of wonder, star of night Lyrics: 1 We three kings of Orient are; bearing gifts we traverse afar, field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star. Refrain: O star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright, westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light! 2 Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain, gold I bring to crown him again, King forever, ceasing never over us all to reign. [Refrain] 3 Frankincense to offer have I; incense owns a deity nigh; prayer and praising gladly raising, worshiping God Most High. [Refrain] 4 Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom; sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying, sealed in the stone-cold tomb. [Refrain] 5 Glorious now behold him arise, King and God and Sacrifice: Alleluia! Alleluia! sounds through the earth and skies. [Refrain] Topics: Christian Year Nativity/Christmas; Christian Year Epiphany; Jesus Christ Birth Scripture: Psalm 72:10 Used With Tune: KINGS OF ORIENT

Small Church Music

Editors: John H. Hopkins Description: The SmallChurchMusic site was launched in 2006, growing out of the requests from those struggling to provide suitable music for their services and meetings. Rev. Clyde McLennan was ordained in mid 1960’s and was a pastor in many small Australian country areas, and therefore was acutely aware of this music problem. Having also been trained as a Pipe Organist, recordings on site (which are a subset of the smallchurchmusic.com site) are all actually played by Clyde, and also include piano and piano with organ versions. All recordings are in MP3 format. Churches all around the world use the recordings, with downloads averaging over 60,000 per month. The recordings normally have an introduction, several verses and a slowdown on the last verse. Users are encouraged to use software: Audacity (http://www.audacityteam.org) or Song Surgeon (http://songsurgeon.com) (see http://scm-audacity.weebly.com for more information) to adjust the MP3 number of verses, tempo and pitch to suit their local needs. Copyright notice: Rev. Clyde McLennan, performer in this collection, has assigned his performer rights in this collection to Hymnary.org. Non-commercial use of these recordings is permitted.
