1872 - 1971 Author of "Make thou my life so full of love (Black)" Black, Binney Simpson. (Garafraxa, Ontario, 1872-April 30, 1971, Oakville, Ontario). Presbyterian. Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario), B.A., 1904; B.D., 1907. Pastorates at Toronto, 1908-1913, 191941-1949; Montreal, 1913-1915; Congregational churches in New York State, 1916-1928; Sarnia, 1928-1934; Campbellford, 1935-1941; Prescott, 1949-1954; Uxbridge, 1954-1960 (all in Ontario). Many of his sermons and articles appeared in periodicals like Pulpit Preaching and Christian World Pulpit. He was noted for never reading a scripture lesson, but always reciting it. He lived just long enough to learn that his "Make Thou my life so full of love" had won first prize in the competition for new hymns conducted during the preparation of The Book of Praise (1972). --Hugh McKellar, DNAH Archives

1821 - 1896 Person Name: C. I. Black Author of "'Twas in the morning cold, when earth" in Songs of the Soul Charles Ingham Black was born about 1821. A na­tive of Sligo, Black was ed­u­cat­ed at Trin­i­ty Coll­ege, Dub­lin, and in 1855 be­came Cur­ate of Burl­ey in Wharfe­dale where he served for 40 years. It was said that Black was a stu­dent all his life, an ex­cell­ent the­o­lo­gian and class­ic­al schol­ar, and a writ­er of prose and verse. He com­posed a num­ber of car­ols.
