Angel-voices ever singing

Author: Francis Pott, 1832-1909 Meter: 8.5.8.5.8.4.3 Appears in 379 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 5:13 Lyrics: 1 Angel-voices ever singing round thy throne of light, angel-harps for ever ringing, rest not day nor night; thousands only live to bless thee, and confess thee Lord of might. 2 Thou who art beyond the farthest mortal eye can see, can it be that thou regardest our poor hymnody? Yes, we know that thou art near us, and wilt hear us constantly. 3 Yea, we know that thou rejoicest o'er each work of thine; thou didst ears and hands and voices for thy praise design; craftsman's art and music's measure for thy pleasure all combine. 4 In thy house, great God, we offer of thine own to thee; and for thine acceptance proffer all unworthily, hearts and minds and hands and voices in our choicest psalmody. 5 Honour, glory, might and merit thine shall ever be, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, blessèd Trinity. Of the best that thou hast given earth and heaven render thee. To Mock Your Reign, O Dearest Lord

Author: Fred Pratt Green Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 14 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 5:6-14 Lyrics: 1 To mock your reign, O dearest Lord, they made a crown of thorns, set you with taunts along that road from which no one returns. They could not know, as we do now, how glorious is that crown, that thorns would flower upon your brow, your sorrows heal our own. 2 In mock acclaim, O gracious Lord, they snatched a purple cloak, your passion turned, for all they cared into a soldier’s joke. They could not know, as we do now, that though we merit blame, you will your robe of mercy throw around our naked shame. 3 A sceptered reed, O patient Lord, they thrust into your hand, and acted out their grim charade to its appointed end. They could not know, as we do now, though empires rise and fall, your kingdom shall not cease to grow till love embraces all. We sing for all the unsung saints

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr. b. 1944 Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 5:11-12 Lyrics: 1 We sing for all the unsung saints, that countless, nameless throng, who kept the faith and passed it on with hope steadfast and strong, through all the daily griefs and joys no chronicles record, forgetful of their lack of fame, but mindful of their Lord. 2 Though uninscribed with date or place, with title, rank, or name, as living stones their stories join to form a hallowed frame around the mystery in their midst: the Lamb once sacrificed, the Love that wrested life from death, the wounded, risen Christ. 3 So we take heart from unknown saints bereft of earthly fame, those faithful ones who have received a more enduring name: for they reveal true blessing comes when we our pride efface and offer back our lives to be the vessels of God's grace. How shall I sing that majesty

Author: John Mason, c. 1645-1694 Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 40 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 5:11 Lyrics: 1 How shall I sing that majesty which angels do admire? Let dust in dust and silence lie; sing, sing, ye heav'enly choir. Thousands of thousands stand around thy throne, O God most high; ten thousand times ten thousand sound thy praise; but who am I? 2 Thy brightness unto them appears, whilst I thy footsteps trace; a sound of God comes to my ears, but they behold thy face. They sing, because thou art their Sun; Lord, send a beam on me; for where heav'n is but once begun there alleluias be. 3 How great a being, Lord, is thine, which doth all beings keep! Thy knowledge is the only line to sound so vast a deep. Thou art a sea without a shore, a sun without a sphere; thy time is now and evermore, thy place is ev'rywhere. Topics: Joy, Praise and Thanksgiving; Year A All Saints' Day; Year B Proper 24; Year C Easter 4 Used With Tune: SOLL'S SEIN
