1816 - 1874 Person Name: L. E. A. Scripture: Mark 11:13 Author of "Nothing but leaves! The Spirit grieves" in The Seventh-Day Adventist Hymn and Tune Book Akerman, Lucy Evelina, née Metcalf. An American Unitarian writer, daughter of Thomas Metcalf, born at Wrentham, Mass., Feb. 21, 1816, married to Charles Akerman, of Portsmouth, N.H, resided at Providence, R.I., and died there Feb. 21,1874. Mrs. Akerman is known as a hymn writer through her:—
Nothing but leaves, the Spirit grieves, which was suggested by a sermon by M. D. Conway, and first published in the N. Y. Christian Observer, cir. 1858. In the Scottish Family Treasury, 1859, p. 136, it is given without name or signature, and was thus introduced into Great Britain. In America it is chiefly in use amongst the Baptists. Its popularity in Great Britain arose out of its incorporation by Mr. Sankey, in his Sacred Songs & Solos, No. 34, and his rendering of it in the evangelistic services of Mr. Moody. The air to which it is sung is by an American composer, S. J. Vail.

1838 - 1878 Person Name: Chester G. Allen, 1838-1878 Scripture: Mark 11:8-10 Composer of "PRAISE HIM" in Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New Chester G. Allen was known as a teacher, composer and musical writer. He taught music in Cleveland, Ohio public schools. He also edited and compiled collections of music for schools and churches, containing many of his own compositions.

Person Name: Unknown Scripture: Mark 11:1-10 Composer of "BEREDEN VÄG FÖR HERRAN" in Glory to God In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

Scripture: Mark 11:9-10 Translator (English, sts. 1-3)) of "Bendito el Rey Que Viene (Blest is the King Who Comes)" in Oramos Cantando = We Pray In Song Delbert Asay (20th c.), served the United Methodist Church for many years as a music missionary in Uruguay and Mexico. Asay's songs and arrangements have appeared in several Hispanic songbooks, including Nuevas Canciones Cristianas, published in Uruguay (1975).
