All the way my Saviour leads me

Author: Fanny J. Crosby (Frances van Alstyne), 1820-1915 Hymnal: CPWI Hymnal #493 (2010) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Psalm 37:23 Lyrics: 1 All the way my Saviour leads me; what have I to ask beside? Can I doubt his tender mercy, who through life has been my guide? Heavenly peace, divinest comfort, here by faith in him to dwell! For I know whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well. 2 All the way my Saviour leads me, cheers each winding path I tread, gives me grace for every trial, feeds me with the living bread. Though my weary steps may falter, and my soul a-thirst may be, gushing from the rock before me, Lo! A spring of joy I see. 3 All the way my Saviour leads me, O the fullness of his love! Perfect rest to me is promised in my Father’s house above. When my spirit, clothed, immortal, wings its flight to realms of day, this, my song through endless ages: Jesus led me all the way! All Depends on Our Possessing

Author: Catherine Winkworth, 1827-1878 Hymnal: Christian Worship #807 (2021) Meter: 8.8.7.8.8.7 Scripture: Psalm 37:5-6 Lyrics: 1 All depends on our possessing God's abundant grace and blessing, though all earthly wealth depart. They who trust with faith unshaken in their God are not forsaken and will keep a dauntless heart. 2 He who to this day has fed me and to many joys has led me is and ever shall be mine. He who ever gently schools me, he who daily guides and rules me will remain my help divine. 3 Many spend their lives in fretting over trifles and in getting things that have no solid ground. I shall strive to win a treasure that will bring me lasting pleasure and that now is seldom found. 4 When with sorrow I am stricken, hope anew my heart will quicken; all my longing shall be stilled. To his loving-kindness tender soul and body I surrender, for on God alone I build. 5 Well he knows what best to grant me; all the longing hopes that haunt me, joy and sorrow, have their day. I shall doubt his wisdom never; as God wills, so be it ever; I commit to him my way. 6 If my days on earth he lengthen, he my weary soul will strengthen; all my trust in him I place. Earthly wealth is not abiding, like a stream away is gliding; safe I anchor in his grace. Topics: Trust Languages: English Tune Title: ALLES IST AN GOTTES SEGEN

A Little That the Righteous Hold

Hymnal: Psalter Hymnal (Red) #71 (1934) Meter: 8.8.6 D Scripture: Psalm 37 Lyrics: 1 A little that the righteous hold Is better far than wealth untold Of many wicked men; Destroyed shall be their arm of pride, But they who in the Lord confide Shall be upholden then. 2 He knows the days the perfect live, To them a heritage will give Which ever shall abide; In evil times no shame they know, And in the days of famine's woe They shall be satisfied. 3 Although the wicked prospered seem, At last they vanish like a dream And perish in a day; Jehovah's foes shall soon appear Like fields once fair, now brown and sere; Like smoke they fade away. 4 They borrow oft and pay not back, But righteous men do nothing lack, And give with gracious hand; Those cursed by Him shall be destroyed, But such as have His grace enjoyed, They shall possess the land Topics: Punishment Of The Wicked; Rewards of Righteousness; Righteous And Wicked Contrasted; Vanity Of Riches Languages: English Tune Title: RAMOTH

A Psalm of David

Hymnal: The Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs of the Old and New Testament, faithully translated into English metre #PXXXVII (1758) Scripture: Psalm 37 First Line: Fret not thy self at wicked men Lyrics: 1 Fret not thy self at wicked men, for their prosperity; Nor be thou envious at the men who work iniquity. 2 For like the grass that flourished, cut quickly down are they; And like the green and tender herb, shall wither soon away. 3 Upon JEHOVAH put thy trust, and be thou doing good: So shalt thou dwell within the land, and truth* shall be thy food. 4 See that thou set thy hearts' delight chiefly upon the LORD: Then the just wishes of thy heart to thee he will afford. 5 Upon the LORD devolve thy way, by faith on Him depend; And He will bring thy good designs to a most happy end. 6 Yea, like the shining light will he they righteousness display; And He thy judgment will bring forth clear-shining as noon-day. 7 Rest on the LORD, and patiently wait for Him; fret not thou At him who prospers in his way in ill devices now. 8 All wrath relinquish utterly; cease from rash anger too: In no wise fret thy self, to move Thee any ill to do. 9 For those who evil doers are shall be cut off and fall; But those who on JEHOVAH wait the earth inherit shall. 10 For, yet a little while, and here the wicked shall not be. Yea thou shalt look and view his place but him thou shalt not see. 11 Whereas the meek and humble shall the earth as heirs possess; And thankfully delight themselves in plenteousness of peace. [2 Part] 12 The wicked plots against the just; they gnash their teeth and foam; 13 But them the Lord derides, and sees their fatal day will come. 14 The wicked forth their sword have drawn and bent their bow have they To cast the poor and needy down, The upright men to slay. 15 But their own swords into their hearts shall enter suddenly: Their bows which they have bent shall all in pieces broken be. 16 The little that a righteous man enjoys, is better far, Than when to many wicked join'd their stores of riches are. 17 For of ungodly men the arms shall wholly broken be; But those who righteous are, the LORD will hold up carefully. 18 The LORD, the days of upright men exactly knows; and sure Their promised inheritance for ever shall endure. 19 In dangerous and evil times, from shame they shall be free; And when the days of famine come, they satify'd shall be. 20 But wicked men shall perish soon; and who the LORD provoke, Shall like the fat of lambs consume, and vanish into smoke. [3 Part] 21 The man ungodly borrows much, and takes no are to pay; Whereas the just man mercy shews, and freely gives away. 22 For such as blessed are by Him, The earth inherit shall: But those who by Him cursed are, shall be cut off and fall. 23 The steps of good men by the LORD are ordered aright; And in their good and righteous way, He takes a great delight. 24 Altho' they fall, yet shall they not be cast down utterly; Because JEHOVAH with his hand upholds them carefully. 25 Nor in my youth, nor in my age, ev'n to my hoary head; Nor have I seen the just forsook, nor their seed begging bread. 26 He shews his mercy ev'ry day and lends to those who need; And blessing he behind him leaves, to all his godly seed. 27 Wherefore from evil far depart; do good; and then besure, Thou shalt have such a dwelling place as ever shall endure. 28 Because the LORD doth judgment love, his saints forsakes not He: Kept ever are they; but cut off, the sinner's race shall be. 29 The just inherit shall the land, And ever therein dwell. 30 The just man's mouth doth wisdom speak; His tongue right judgment tell. 31 The God's pure law is in his heart, none of his steps shall stray. 32 The wicked watches for the just, And seeks for him to slay. 33 But yet JEHOVAH will not leave the just man in his hands; Nor will the righteous man condemn when He in judgment stands. [4 Part] 34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way; and Thee exalt will He, Th' earth to inherit, when cut off the wicked thou shalt see. 35 The wicked man I have beheld in dreadful pow'r and pride; Ev'n like a laurel flourishing, and spreading far and wide. 36 Nevertheless he pass'd away, and, lo he quite was gone; I searched for him, but could find no glimpse of such a one. 37 But mark the perfect, and observe the man of uprightness; And thou shalt see, that of this man the latter end is peace. 36 Whereas those who transgressors are, together perish shall; To be cut off shall be the end of men ungodly all. 39 But the salvation of the just does from JEHOVAH come: And he's their strength to whom they look in times most troublesome. 40 Yea help and free them will the LORD; he will defend the just From wicked men, He will them save, because in Him they trust. A Psalm of David

Hymnal: The Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs of the Old and New-Testament #PXXXVII (1742) Scripture: Psalm 37 First Line: Fret not thy self because of them Lyrics: 1 Fret not thy self because of them That evil workers be; Nor envious be against the men That work iniquity. 2 For even like unto the grass, Cut quickly down are they; And like unto the tender herb, They wither shall away. 3 Upon Jehovah put thy trust, And be thou doing good: So shalt thou dwell within the land, And faith shall be thy food. 4 See that thou set thy hearts' delight Also upon the Lord: And then the wishes of thine heart To thee he will afford. 5 Rowl on the Lord thy way; trust him, And he'll it bring to pass. 6 As light thy justice he'll bring forth, Thy judgment at noon days. 7 Rest in Jehovah, and for him With patience do thou stay; Fret not thy self because of him Who prospers in his way; Nor at the man who brings to pass The crafts he doth devise. 8 Cease ire and wrath, leave to do ill, Thy self fret in no wise. 9 For evil doers shall be made By cutting down to fall; But those that wait upon the Lord, The land inherit shall. [2] 10 For yet a little while and then, The wicked shall not be: Yea thou shall diligently mark His place and it not see. 11 But humble men th'inheritance Shall of the earth possess; Also they shall themselves delight In multitude of peace. 12 The wicked plots against the just Gnashing at him his teeth. 13 The Lord shall laugh at him because His Day at hand he seeth. 14 The wicked have drawn out their sword, And bent their bow have they To cast the poor and needy down, To kill th' upright in way. 15 Their sword shall enter their own heart, Their bows shall broken be. 16 The just man's little better is, Than wicked's treasury. 17 For th' arms of wicked shall be broke, The Lord the just doth stay. 18 The Lord doth know upright men's days And their lot is for aye. 19 They never shall ashamed be In any time of ill; And when the days of famine come, Then shall they have their fill. 20 But wicked men, Jehovah's foes, As lambs fat shall decay: They shall consume, yea into smoke They shall consume away. [3] 21 The man ungodly borrow doth, And never doth repay; Whereas the just man mercy shows, And freely gives away. 22 For such as of him blessed be, The earth inherit shall: And they that of him cursed are By cutting down shall fall. 23 The footsteps of a godly man Are ordered aright, Ev'n by the Lord, and also he Doth in his way delight. 24 Although he fall, yet shall he not Be utterly down cast, Because Jehovah with his hand Doth yet uphold him fast. 25 I have been young, and now am old, Yet have I never seen The just man left, so that his seed For bread have beggars been. 26 But ev'ry day he's merciful, And lends: his seed is blest. 27 Depart from evil, and do good, And ever dwell at rest. 28 Because the Lord doth judgment love, His saints forsakes not he: Kept ever are they; but cut off The sinner's seed shall be 29 The just inherit shall the land, And therein ever dwell. 30 The just man's mouth doth wisdom speak His tongue doth judgment tell. 31 The law of his God is in's heart, None of his steps shall stray. 32 The wicked watcheth for the just, And seeketh him to slay. 33 Jehovah will not such an one Leave up into his hand: Nor any such will he condemn When judge he doth stand. [4] 34 Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, And he shall thee exalt, Th' earth to inherit, when cut off The wicked see thou shalt. 35 The wicked man I have beheld In might power to be; And spreading so himself abroad Like as a green bay-tree. 36 Nevertheless he past away, And lo then was not he; Moreover, I did seek for him, But found he could not be. 37 Take notice of the perfect man, And th' upright one attend? Because that unto such a man Peace is the latter end. 36 But such men as transgressors be Together perish shall: The latter end shall be cut off Of Men ungodly all. 39 But the salvation of the just Doth of Jehovah come: He is their strength to them in times That are most troublesome. 40 Yea help and free them will the Lord; He shall deliver them From wicked men, because that they Do put their trust in him.
