Psalm 66: All lands to God in joyful sounds

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 26 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 66 First Line: All lands to God in joyful sounds Lyrics: 1All lands to God in joyful sounds, aloft your voices raise. 2Sing forth the honour of his name, and glorious make his praise. 3Say unto God, How terrible in all thy works art thou! Through thy great pow’r thy foes to thee shall be constrain’d to bow. 4All on the earth shall worship thee, they shall thy praise proclaim In songs: they shall sing cheerfully unto thy holy name. 5Come, and the works that God hath wrought with admiration see: In’s working to the sons of men most terrible is he. 6Into dry land the sea he turn’d, and they a passage had; Ev’n marching through the flood on foot, there we in him were glad. 7He ruleth ever by his pow’r; his eyes the nations see: O let not the rebellious ones lift up themselves on high. 8Ye people, bless our God; aloud the voice speak of his praise: 9Our soul in life who safe preserves, our foot from sliding stays. 10For thou didst prove and try us, Lord, as men do silver try; 11Brought’st us into the net, and mad’st bands on our loins to lie. 12Thou hast caus’d men ride o’er our heads; and though that we did pass Through fire and water, yet thou brought’st us to a wealthy place. 13I’ll bring burnt off ‘rings to thy house; to thee my vows I’ll pay, 14Which my lips utter’d, my mouth spake, when trouble on me lay. 15Burnt-sacrifices of fat rams with incense I will bring; Of bullocks and of goats I will present an offering. 16All that fear God, come, hear, I’ll tell what he did for my soul. 17I with my mouth unto him cry’d, my tongue did him extol. 18If in my heart I sin regard, the Lord me will not hear: 19But surely God me heard, and to my prayer’s voice gave ear. 20O let the Lord, our gracious God, for ever blessed be, Who turned not my pray’r from him, nor yet his grace from me.

Sing, all ye nations, to the Lord

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 50 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 66 Lyrics: Sing, all ye nations, to the Lord, Sing with a joyful noise; With melody of sound record His honors and your joys. Say to the Power that shakes the sky, "How terrible art thou! Sinners before thy presence fly, Or at thy feet they bow." [Come, see the wonders of our God, How glorious are his ways! In Moses' hand he puts his rod, And cleaves the frighted seas. He made the ebbing channel dry, While Isr'el passed the flood There did the church begin their joy, And triumph in their God.] He rules by his resistless might: Will rebel mortals dare Provoke th' Eternal to the fight, And tempt that dreadful war? O bless our God, and never cease; Ye saints, fulfil his praise; He keeps our life, maintains our peace, And guides our doubtful ways. Lord, thou hast proved our suff'ring souls, To make our graces shine; So silver bears the burning coals, The metal to refine. Through wat'ry deeps, and fiery ways, We march at thy command; Led to possess the promised place By thine unerring hand. Let all the Lands, JEHOVAH blessing

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Psalm 66 Lyrics: 1 Let all the Lands, JEHOVAH blessing, To him with chearful Voices raise; To his great Name their Psalms addressing, Spread far abroad his glorious Praise: And let them say, LORD, how excelling, In all thy wond'rous Works, art thou! Thy Foes against thy Pow'r rebelling, Shall conquer'd be, and forc'd to bow. 2 The Nations round, thy Pow'r confessing, Shall thee, their GOD, supreme, adore; Their Dread of thy great Name expressing, In Hymns and Songs for ever more: O come, and view with Admiration, The Works of God! and then you'll own, That he to ev'ry Age and Nation, Hath great and wond'rous Judgments shown. 3 The Sea, thro' which our Fathers walked, By him was turn'd to solid Land; Of this they to their Offspring talked, And prais'd the Wonders of his Hand. He by his Pow'r is ever reigning, His Eye doth all the World survey; Let Man, presumptuous Thoughts restraining, Yield humble to his Sovereign Sway. 4 Thro' all the Earth let GOD be blessed; Ye Nations spread abroad his Praise; To him be all your Pray'rs addressed, To him in Songs your Voices raise. 'Tis GOD that gives us safe Protection, 'Tis he that does our Lives secure; Our Footsteps form'd by his Direction, Are made to tread the Path that's sure. Part II 5 As Gold by Fire becomes refined, And Ore is in the Furnace try'd; So, LORD, to know how we're inclined, Thou has thy searching Pow'r apply'd. Thou plac'd us in a low Condition, Where we oppressive Burthens bore; Our Hearts were touch'd with deep Contrition, We daily did thy Help implore. 6 Our Foes did us, their Slaves distressed, At once thro' Fire and Water chase; But thou hast all our Wrongs redressed, And brought us in a wealthy Place. Burnt-Off'rings, therefore, I am bringing, To thee, the GOD, whom I adore; My Voice shall be employ'd in singing, Thy Praises, LORD! for ever more. 7 The Vows my Soul, when much distressed, Hath made to GOD, I will repay; Whate'er my Lips have then expressed, Shall be perform'd without Delay. Then shall the riches Incense burning, Perfume the Air, fat Rams shall fall; The choicest Goats from Fields returning, Shall bleed, with Bullocks from the Stall. 8 All ye that fear the LORD, attend me, O hear my Voice with heedful Care! I'll tell how GOD his Help did send me, His Love with Joy I will declare. As I before his Aid implored, So now I'll spread abroad his Fame; He hath my Soul to Life restored, And I will bless his holy Name. 9 But if my Heart had Evil framed, Or if my Breast had harbour'd Sin; My Vows would soon have been disclaimed, My Pray'rs had not accepted been. But GOD to me, whene'er I cried, His gracious Ear did quickly bend; Nor hath my humble Wish denied, But does with constant Love attend. 10 Be thou, O GOD, for ever blessed, Who never, when to thee I pray, With hold thy Love from me distressed, Or turn thy glorious Face away. nor turns his Face away! Topics: Soul's Desire Of Believers; Thanksgivings For Delerances and Wonders, General Used With Tune: [Let all the Lands, Jehovah blessing]

Let all the Lands with Shouts of Joy

Appears in 55 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 66 Lyrics: 1 Let all the Lands with Shouts of Joy 2 to God their Voices raise; Sing Psalms in Honour of His Name, and spread His glorious Praise. 3 And let them say, How dreadful, Lord, in all thy Works art Thou! To thy great Pow'r thy stubborn Foes shall all be forc'd to bow. 4 Thro' all the Earth the Nations round shall Thee their God confess; And with glad Hymns their awful Dread of thy great Name express. 5 O! come, behold the Works of God; and then with me you'll own, That He to all the Sons of Men has wond'rous Judgments shown. 6 He made the Sea become dry land, through which our Fathers walk'd; Whilst to each other of his Might with Joy his People talk'd. 7 He by his Pow'r for ever rules; his Eyes the world survey: Let no presumptuous Man rebel against his Sov'reign Sway. Part II 8,9 O! all ye Nations, bless our God, and loudly speak his Praise; Who keeps our soul alive, and still confirms our stedfast Ways. 10 For Thou hast try'd us, Lord, as Fire does try the precious Ore: 11 Thou brought'st us into Steights, where we oppressing Burdens bore. 12 Insulting Foes did us, their Slaves, thro' Fire and Water chase; but yet, at last, Thou brought'st us forth into a wealthy Place. 13 Burnt-off'rings to thy House I'll bring, and there my Vows I'll pay; 14 Which I with solemn Zeal did make in Trouble's dismal Day. 15 Then shall the richest Incense smoke, the fattest Rams shall fall, The choicest Goats from out the fold, and Bullocks from the Stall. 16 O! come, all ye that rear the Lord; attend with heedful Care, Whilst I, what God for me has done, with grateful Joy declare. 17,18 As I, before, His Aid implor'd, so now I praise His Name; Who, if my Heart, had harbour'd Sin, would all my Pray'rs disclaim. 19 But God to me, when e'er I cry'd, His gracious Ear did bend; And to the Voice of my Request, with constant Love, attend. 20 Then bless'd for ever be my God, who never, when I pray, With-holds his Mercy from my Soul, nor turns his Face away!

Thus unto God say ye: Through greatness of thy might, thy foes Shall yield themselves to thee. 4 All they to thee shall bow themselves That dwell upon the earth: And sing unto thee, they shall sing Unto thy name with mirth. Selah. 5 Come hither and the works of God Which he hath wrought, O see; In doing to the sons of men How terrible is he? 6 He did the sea to dry land turn, A way thereby they had On foot to pass the river through, There we in him were glad. 7 He ruleth by his pow'r for aye, His eyes the nations spy: Let not those that rebellious are Lift up themselves on high. Selah. 8 Ye people bless our God, and make His praises voice be heard. 9 Which holds our soul in life, and he Lets not our feet be stirr'd. 10 For God thou hast us prov'd, thou hast Us try'd, as silver's try'd. 11 Into the net brought us thou hast, On our loins straitness ty'd. 12 Men o'er our heads thou mad'st to ride, Through fire and water pass Did we; but us thou brought'st into A place that wealty was. 13 With off'ring I'll go to thy house, My vows I'll pay to thee; 14 Which my lips utter'd, and mouth spake When trouble was on me. 15 Burnt off'rings I will offer thee That full of fatness are, Of rams the incense, bullocks too With goats I will prepare. Selah. 16 Come hither hearken unto me, All ye that God do fear; And that he hath done for my soul To you I will declare. 17 With mouth I cry'd to him, and with My tongue extoll'd was he. 18 If in my heart I sin regard, The Lord will not hear me. 19 But now assuredly God hath Vouchsafed me to hear: He to my supplication's voice Did give attentive ear. 20 O blessed be the mighty God, Because my pray'r hath he Not turn'd away; nor yet his own Benignity from me.

O Precious word the Saviour spake

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 3 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 66 Lyrics: 1 O Precious word the Saviour spake, To his Disciples dear; Tho' you my friends, I must forsake, You need not doubt nor fear. 2 To my bless'd father I ascend, And leave you here below; I will remain your greatest fiend, And you shall find it true. 3 For that ye now lament and grieve, It answers for your good; The Holy Ghost shall you receive, The comforter from God. 4 Your souls shall be with grace endow'd: Your hearts abound with joy, Your fears shall vanish like a cloud! That with the winds do fly. 5 Ye shall reprove the world of sin, The sin of unbelief; Which evermore the cause has been, That men find no relief. 6 By faith in Jesus man is sav'd! Restor'd to God again; But unbelief keeps man enslav'd, And rivets Satan's chain. 7 My innocence and righteousness, Ye shall sufficient prove: When ye shall make the world confess That I do reign above. 8 The Prince of Darkness is condemn'd, With all his art and pow'r; And man is greatly to be blam'd To serve him any more.
