Al turnopunkt' de sunleviĝ' kaj ĝis ekstremo de la ter'
ni kantu al Princ' Kristo : lin Maria naskis Virgulin'.

Benata la Farint' de l' mond' sin vestis per ĉi sklava korp'
por savi karnon per la karn' ke ne perdiĝu kreitar'.

Ĉastegan ventron de patrin' la graco trafas el ĉiel',
knabina ventro pro sekret' pezegas : ŝi ne konas ĝin.

Do domo de pudora kor' tuj iĝas templo nur por Di' :
la netuŝitulin' sen vir' koncipas filon en uter'.

En naskospasmoj naskas lin, kiun anoncis Gabriel' —
kaj suprensalte jam Baptist' rekonas lin el panja sin'.

Fojn' por kuŝado, kial ne? li ne malŝatas pri manĝuj' :
per iom lakto nutras sin, dank' kiun manĝas ĉiu bird'.

Ĝojegas ĉielula ĥor', anĝeloj kantas nun por Di'
kaj al paŝtistoj la Paŝtist' montriĝas : ĉies li kreint'.

Jesu', la gloro jen por vi — ĉar vi naskiĝis el Virgin' —
kun Patro kaj Vivig-Spirit' por ĉiamdaŭra la tempeg'.

Sedulius, Coelius. The known facts concerning this poet, as contained in his two letters to Macedonius, are, that in early life, he devoted himself to heathen literature; that comparatively late in life he was converted to Christianity; and that amongst his friends were Gallieanus and Perpetua. The place of his birth is generally believed to have been Rome; and the date when he flourished 450. For this date the evidence is, that he referred to the Commentaries of Jerome, who died 420; is praised by Cassiodorus, who d. 575, and by Gelasius, who was pope from 492 to 496.
