Representative Text

1 All alone, no friend to cheer thee,
With thy soul alone,
When the life of good or evil,
Thy canst freely own;
Canst thou hear a faint voice calling?
Canst thou hear it say to thee,
Thou art not thine own, I bought thee
On the cruel tree?

Refrain:
’Tis the Savior calling, calling,
’Tis the spirit’s voice you hear.
Listen, for its teachings always
Make our duty clear.

2 Wicked tho’ts thou hast been thinking,
And thy hands have wrought,
Many such to real actions,
Wicked as the thought;
Listen, now, to what it sayeth,
How it bids those tho’ts to cease,
How it leads to something better,
Blessed tho’ts of peace. [Refrain]

3 Thou hast done thy duty bravely,
In the Master’s name,
But the wicked point the finger,
Put thy deeds to shame;
List again, that inward whisper,
Faint, but yet assuring voice,
Says thou hast done well, and bids thee
In his name rejoice. [Refrain]
