1 And now my soul, another year
Of thy short life is past;
I cannot long continue here,
And this may be my last.
2 Awake, my soul! with utmost care
Thy true condition learn:
What are thy hopes? how fair?
What is thy great concern?
3 Behold, another year begins!
Set out afresh for heaven;
Seek pardon for thy former Sins,
In Christ so freely given.
4 Devoutly yield thyself to God,
And on his grace depend;
With zeal pursue the heavenly road,
Nor doubt a happy end.
AMEN.

And now, my soul, another year. S. Browne. [New Year.] In his Hymns & Spiritual Songs, &c, 1720, Bk. i., pp. 44-5, in 8 stanzas of 4 lines, and entitled "New Year's Day." Its use is very limited in Great Britain, but somewhat extensive in America. As given in modern hymnbooks it is generally in an abbreviated form, as in Major's Book of Praise, No. 293, Snepp's Songs of Grace & Glory, No. 915.
